Convoy on DC gains momentum on reducing fuel prices

CONVOY ON DC GAINS MOMENTUM

Truckers and Citizens United, a grass-roots organization devoted to reducing fuel prices, announced today that they have upgraded their initial estimates for their planned April 28 protest in Washington, DC.

Chief organizer Mark Kirsch said, "We're now looking at participation from at least 26 states, with an estimated five thousand trucks and an additional two to five thousand protesters."

The planned convoy and protest is scheduled to begin Sunday night in Maine, where trucks will assemble and begin their trip to Washington, DC. As they roll, other convoys will approach from the West and South, until they converge on RFK Stadium. From there the protest will continue on foot to the Reflecting Pool area, where the protest is scheduled to take place.

Organizer Will Herr reports, "We're really blown away by the response to this that we're getting. Up and down the eastern seaboard folks are saying 'right on, we're behind you 100%.' People are in survival mode, and they're glad that someone's finally doing something to bring down the cost of fuel."

JB Schaffner, of TheAmericanDriver.com, said, "We're going to get something done instead of just talking about it. We're calling out congress and we're going to hold them accountable."

The protest is scheduled to take place across the lunchtime hours of Monday, April 28. Requests to speak have been received from Senators Hillary Clinton and John McCain, among others.

Said Kirsch, "America can't afford another winter at these energy prices. The movement is snowballing, and we're not going to stop until we see them come down to where they should be."

When asked about what spurred the movement into action, Mark said, "this was a groundswell movement. Truckers are parking their trucks because they can't afford to haul freight. Businesses are going under, and folks haven't seen Washington do a darned thing about it."

"When they're surrounded by an ocean of trucks," he continued, "we'll see if they can ignore that."

Levels of ignorance are stupendous

Dear Mr. Kirsch, I have a news for you: they've been ignoring pretty much everything for last 16 years or so. They ignored plight of the unemployed, when their workplaces took the one-way trip to China. They ignored plight of the middle class, being annihilated by wal-marts and other giant corporations. They've been ignoring pollution, starvation, lack of medical care. They ignored a bloody moron installed as president. Since, they've been ignoring over 4000 American corpses, on top of a pile of possibly over a million Iraqi corpses. And you think that five thousand trucks will make a difference?
