Why couldn't Jon Stewart say the 'I' word to Speaker Nancy Pelosi?

Yes, Jon Stewart is not a journalist. And Stewart talks about the "fake news" on "The Daily Show." But in the many segments on his own program, Stewart should realize that the MSM will simply not ask the questions the American public wants to hear.

So Stewart had Speaker Nancy Pelosi on the show last night. Pelosi is promoting her own book "Know Your Power: A Message to America's Daughters," but certainly Stewart had opportunities to ask Pelosi about other issues. And he did. Stewart asked about Congress' success rate, and what might happen to Congress if Obama wins in November.

There was one question missing on the docket in the interview. All Stewart had to ask was this: "Given what we have learned about the Bush Administration since the elections of 2006, do you now regret taking impeachment off the table?"

As a follow-up question, Stewart could have asked: "Did you factor in anything new that might come out about the Bush Administration tactics when you made you decision about impeachment?"

Seems simple enough, and Stewart is certainly capable of asking these types of questions. But as regular viewers know, sometimes Stewart doesn't want to seem too confrontational because, after all, it's a comedy show. And he saves his best for what he sees as hypocrisy, e.g., the infamous Chris Matthews interview.

No offense, Jon Stewart, but Pelosi's path about impeachment is littered with hypocrisy. We realize you aren't a journalist. And understand, the "journalists" aren't doing their job. It's a sad existence when a comedian does a better job of getting to the truth than those who are trained to do so. But this is the reality where we live -- and we could have used a little push toward the truth last night.

Yeah, pre-agreed. Sort of a "duh"

Radio announcers Thom Hartmann and Ed Schultz have both discussed how politicians lay down the law: you'll ask me this, you won't ask me that -- or no access. Politicians are royalty, you know. You can't ask them just anything.

Kinda Pitiful, Don't You Think...

...that we have to go to a comedy show for "hard" news? I believe Pelosi took impeachment "off the table" because she knew there would be a deadlock in Congress, just as I believe impeachment and criminal prosecution will proceed after "W" leaves office. Now that Rove has been charged with contempt by the Judiciary Committee, we will probably see a shift toward impeachment. Testify, Mr. Rove. Save your ass.

Pelosi probably arranged the talking points ahead of time

You can pretty much bet that "impeachment of Bush" was off the subject, and was therefore not approved. If not approved, she would decline the appearance. There is much more that goes on behind the scenes that explain this.

Now, should Stewart have ambushed her with this topic... Oh yes I think he should have. Or have her back on in her roll of Speaker of the House, and not just hawking some book, and then discuss it.

I'll bet

he was told not to bring up the "I" word if she came on the show...
