Hillary's Umpteenth Waterloos

THE FIFTH COLUMNIST by P.M. Carpenter

And that, as they say, was that. All that's missing is the official kiss on both cheeks.

The Washington Post's understated headline this morning: "Clinton Aides Doubtful About Future." Well, they're the only ones.

Virtually everyone else hip to mathematics has been proceeding for some time now on the crushing assumption that Bar

Participatory democracy tastes especially sweet in Indiana, since the wait was 40 years

Crowd waiting for Hillary Clinton in South Bend.

Indiana tasted primary democracy for the first time in 40 years last night. Going 40 years between events makes the reality taste sweeter.

Indiana is one of those states that has always been in the back of the room, raising their hand in an effort to be heard. But 1972, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004 came and went. And Indiana wasn't always the most attractive setting for Democrats. Look at the states to its north, east, and west: Michigan and Illinois went Democratic in 2004 and Ohio likely did as well. Even Kentucky went Democratic in 1996. The last time Indiana went Democratic: Lyndon Johnson in 1964.

So when nobody thinks you will do anything different but vote Republican, and the candidates have been all but picked by the time they get to you, you are the kid who gets picked last for kickball.

Barbara's Daily BuzzFlash Minute for May 7, 2008

BARBARA'S DAILY BUZZFLASH MINUTE

A point of clarification -- When the primaries first began, I was behind Hillary Clinton 100%! As the primary campaign continued and took on such a negative approach, which in my opinion was not necessary, after all Mrs. Clinton had so much going for her and it was only important to continue to point out her value, but they chose the low road, the same tactics that the Repuglicans have been using since Bill Clinton first ran for national office, the Clintons seemed to adopt that "if you can't beat 'em join 'em attitude," the "swift-boat," underhanded, below the belt, nasty, tabloid, scandalous guilt by association, sensationalism that are all components of the Repuglican "strategeries" that I despise and want no part of. I sadly watched both Bill and Hillary tear down everything they seemed to have constructed over the years, I watched at first in sadness that quickly turned to horror as they annihilated what had once been a stellar legacy! I am repulsed by the innuendo, the pandering, and the unnecessary embellishment that has become the Clinton experience! Now, if by some chance it happens that Hillary Rodham Clinton does win the nomination, I will vote for her, because as my grandmother used to say, "don't cut off your nose to spite your face"! I will vote for her, because all this will pale in comparison to John McCain and the Repuglican platform of eternal war, long term recession, and the end of democracy George Bush style and I am not that stupid!
