Rep. Pete Sessions defines "strip club" and "hypocrite"

Welcome back to the BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the Week.

q

"What bothers me is if you say one thing and do something else."

-- Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX), talking about lobbyists on National Public Radio's Marketplace.

It bothers us too, which is why Sessions is this week's winner of the BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the Week. Oh, we just love it when Republicans go out of their way to define "hypocrite" for us, especially when they're in the process of trying to explain away their own hypocritical behavior.

Last spring, Sessions, who is rated at 92 percent on family values by the Christian Coalition, held a fundraiser at a Las Vegas burlesque club called Forty Deuce.

Okay, McCain challenges Obama to go to Iraq and Afghanistan. Obama accepts the challenge and tosses in Europe (tracing a path McCain took earlier this year) and is greeted as a hero.

Controlling The Message

FINDING A VOICE by Ann Davidow

If I were in charge of commercials for Obama and the Democrats I'd begin putting together a collection of video moments and photos so poignant they would speak for themselves and require only the briefest of follow-up comments.

One of my favorites would be "The Hug" - - that snapshot of Senator McCain resting his head on President Bush's shoulder. It dovetails rather nicely with "The Shays Kiss" planted on Bush at his last State of the Union address. Of course Shays is Connecticut's problem so that touching show of affect

If Tocqueville Had Only Known of Karl Rove's Gene Pool

THE FIFTH COLUMNIST by P.M. Carpenter

The McCain campaign's assorted, reshuffled strategists may not always know where they or their candidate stands on the critical issues of the day, but you've got to give them credit for this much: They know how to change -- or drive -- the subject.

Their virtuosity in launching high-flying missiles of the lowest common denominator is, of course, only a nostalgic feature of the Rovian politics of 2004 and 2000. And even though John McCain appeared resistant throughout the early stage of the general election campaign to the practice of their dark arts, one must allow him credit as well for finally doing what a losing candidate must do -- go dirty, go petty, go low, and keep going until the odds have at least leveled.

The 'race card' brawl

Hate Talk and Its Infectious Spittle ...The New Pandemic Pestilence?

MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON

BuzzFlash,

"The propagandist's purpose is to make one set of people forget that certain other sets of people are human." -- Aldous Huxley, The Olive Tree, 1937

How is hate talk different from brainwashing? According to Wikipedia, the CIA coined the word "brainwashing" in 1950, and it is the instilling of certain attitudes and beliefs into a person's mind that weren't originally there. Indirectly, the hate talk that comes out of the Bush Republican Party, if not stopped, will eventually not only play a part in the destruction of US democracy, but in the destruction of our planet as well.

Conservatism is usually thought of as a belief by those who want to cling to the past, to traditions. What is traditional about hate talk?

What would you do if the presidential race came down to your vote?

It can be fun going through the video store, especially in the summertime, and check out cool classic political movies. At Oscar time last February, we asked you to name your all-time favorite political movie.

The one political movie this summer has an interesting story line, but from the reviews, doesn't shape up to be one of the all-time classics. But it could help pass 90 to 120 minutes of your life in a cool theatre on a hot summer day.

I am speaking of course about "Swing Vote," starring Kevin Costner. Technorati Tags:

Barbara's Daily BuzzFlash Minute for August 1, 2008

BARBARA'S DAILY BUZZFLASH MINUTE

The McCains are more like the Bushes than first imagined!!! “In yet another bizarre development in the saga of CMKM Diamonds, better known as CMKX, one of the largest financial frauds in history, Andrew McCain, the son of presumptive Republican presidential candidate John McCain, resigned from the Board of Directors of Henderson, Nevada based Silver State Bank, the bank where hundreds of millions of dollars was deposited as it was stolen from CMKX shareholders ... the inevitable comparison to his father’s involvement twenty years ago in the infamous “Keating 5” savings and loan scandal, where federal regulators seized Lincoln Savings and Loan Association of Irvine, California. The senior McCain was rebuked by the Senate Ethics Commission, who concluded that he and four other senators had tried to hold off a government investigation into the savings and loan’s risky real estate deals. Lincoln’s chairman at the time was Charles Keating, who was not only one of McCain’s top donors, but was a business partner with Cindy McCain. But the younger McCain, who had only been with Silver State Bank for a little over four months after Choice Bank, where McCain was director, was taken over by Silver State, might have to answer questions of his own. Silver State Bank has its own history of problems, and it appears that Andrew McCain either ignored the bank’s past woes, or didn’t properly research the company before joining the Board of Directors,” and on and on and on!

Obama's shape can be an asset in reducing America's obesity levels

The MSM has come up with glorious theories for why Obama isn't ready to be president. But perhaps the stupidest one comes from Amy Chozick at The Wall Street Journal: Obama is too fit to be president.

What is amazing, and sadly not surprising, is that the article doesn't mention the president who was the most obsessed with exercise: George W. Bush. Even when he was the Governor of Texas, Bush was known for taking a long lunch/exercise session in the middle of the day.

So by that logic, Obama is too fit to be president, but Bush is OK and not even worth mentioning.

Subject: More Proof We Are Surrounded By The Right-Wing Media

Hi BuzzFlash,

So the media corpSE is all over Barack Obama for being "arrogant", "uppity", "pompous", "a fancy bearing tea drinking celebrity" candidate according to the media, along with every other word to describe Obama as the "Elitists' Candidate"!

Uhh, what about "Elitist" McCain who has Seven Houses, doesn't bother to pay his house taxes on one of them for four years, buys $500 shoes, has a Billionaire Wife, flies around in her private Lear Jet - and then makes a speech titled "President McCain in 2013", detailing everything he had accomplished as President by 2013?
