Hillary Clinton Openly Admits She Lied, But Then Accuses Obama of Guilt by Association

I’m one of those people who hates hypocrisy, especially when it's practiced by those who would govern others. The Philadelphia debate between Senators Obama and Clinton provided a textbook example of hypocrisy.

During the period when the moderators were doing their best to make sure no real issues were discussed by the candidates, moderator George Stephanopoulos asked Senator Clinton about her apparently untruthful statements about her trip to Bosnia. She responded by acknowledging that she had lied, but without saying the word, "lie."

Here are the three ways she acknowledged her lie:

"On a couple of occasions in the last weeks I just said some things that weren't in keeping with what I knew to be the case and what I had written about in my book."

And:

"But I have talked about this and written about it. And then, unfortunately, on a few occasions I was not as accurate as I have been in the past."

And:

"And I have said that, you know, it just didn't jibe with what I had written about and knew to be the truth."

In case you¹re wondering, one of the confirmations of a lie is when you say something that you know to be false. So when she admitted saying something that, just didn’t jibe with what I knew to be the truth, she was admitting that she lied.

I was laughing pretty hard at the time and thinking that one could probably find examples of Bill Clinton using some of the very same euphemisms when confronted with evidence of his own lies.

The admission itself was significant, but the funniest part about her response was that she made the admission and then asked for a pass: "And, you know, I'm embarrassed by it. I have apologized for it. I've said it was a mistake. And it is, I hope, something that you can look over, because clearly I am proud that I went to Bosnia. It was a war zone."

She wants us to "look over" it; her lies shouldn’t be an issue.

Okay, whatever. But through out the debate, her hypocrisy came through as again and again she pressed her case that Senator Obama be held accountable for his association, not for anything he himself has done or said, but for the words and/or deeds of a couple of people he has happened to associate with over the years.

I keep seeing her as a cartoonish caricature of herself who first says, "Okay, so I lied," then points at Senator Obama and decries, "but HE knows an angry black preacher!"

Did she write her books?

I have seen it stated by a number of sources that she did not actually write the books she claims as her own and had hired ghostwriters. That makes it easier to understand how her book could have accurately portrayed the Bosnia incident, even though she kept on telling her fantasy version at campaign events. And now she doubles the dishonesty by claiming that she had written about the Bosnia incident accurately in her book. We have just experienced 7+ years of having a pathological liar in the Oval Office. Isn't there such a thing as pathological liar fatigue?

Obama is GUILTY!

I am an eyewitness.

I have seen him.

He has been on stage with a known liar, an admitted liar, one who even joked about her lies!

He associates with liars!

He serves in a debating organization with one who supported the invasion of Iraq, and approved the giving of permission to a known warmonger for attacking Iran if he wished, after he had already indicated his desire to do so. Said waarmonger has been blocked only because things on the ground haven't been as nice to him as he expected.

He has been regularly seen with a promoter of NAFTA.

He has often been seen with a person double talking on China.

He has even said nice words (I have heard him!) about a new found friend of one of the greatest enemies a former president and his wife once had, a leader of a great right wing conspiracy.

And Barack Obama has been seen responding to a woman who joined that conspiracy!

He has smiled at a female favorite of a certain media mogul who at a certain breakfast agreed to give her financial and other help -- for no known reasons.

Who cannot conclude that he had had bad companions? Who can trust such a person?

A vote for Obama is a vote for McCain

The myth that Obam's money all comes from small donors has been thoroughly busted. Last month's $40 million all came bundled in maximum amounts. The drug companies and the hospital chains and the insurance companies (essentially unlimited money) all know that while there is no way Obama could carry more than two or three states in the general election he still could deny Hillary the nomination. And he is their last best hope against Hillary who they rightly see as the greatest existential threat to their existence since FDR.

The war in Bosnia ended mysteriously suddenly. I would not be surprised if Hillary partook in some excursions that were not totally covered by the media. In other words I think so much of her I imagine her as some sort of secret agent dodging bullets and then having the professionalism to take the media hit rather than reveal things she can't reveal. Obama not so much.
Either that or I can fully understand how Hillary might have subconsciously imagined herself under enemy sniper fire and come to confuse it with real life because of all the shit that is thrown at her ever minute of every day from every corner. She fully deserves to perceive herself as having come under enemy sniper fire because she has, often.

You say "there is no way Obama could carry more than 2 or 3 states in the general election"??? Who are you, Dick Cheney? I thought only Cheney could say something so utterly wrong. Obama will destroy McCain, whereas McCain would destroy Hillary, and you know it.

The Obama zealots have looked over the last 16 years, and found every possible "guilt by association" they can. Apparently, they accept the Starr report, and every crank allegation made against Bill and Hill. "Bill's lying." Hmm, you mean, "I did not have sex--" And that's NOT guilt by association? Or smearing? I guess I should be relieved that you're not yet demanding another investigation of the death of Vince Foster. But of course, you did accept the Drudge Report's help over and over, despite his proven record of lying. I too deplore the petty, sniping character assassination that the ABC debate used. But some day you'll have to own up to the fact that the single most negative primary campaign in my memory has been waged by the supporters of Barack Obama.

Clinton had a very strong legal defense against the perjury rap, in fact he didnt commit perjury in the Paula Jones case at all. You wildly accuse Obama supporters, but Clinton now is the one who has endorsed Killer McCain, saying only Killer McCain has the experience to be the Commander in Chief,

...and I know that the Starr report is a crock of shit. And the Vince Foster thing was a crock of shit as well. And the impeachment was a travesty. I know this because I've spent YEARS defending the Clintons on this and other sites against every charge the pod-people could ever come up with. Why do I have to be a "zealot" if I choose, finally, to vote for someone else? It seems to me the "zealot" would be the person who tells me I have to vote for someone no matter what their voting record.

The Hillary supporters seem to be confusing the Right Wing Media Spin Machine that the Clintons had to fight for eight years (but are now getting quite cozy with channelling in their attacks on Obama) with the Obama campaign. The RWMSP so desparately wants Clinton to be the candidate so that they can use all those old attacks on her. Hillary, on the other hand just wants to be POTUS more than anything else in the world, even if it means making sure that Obama LOSES in 2008 so she can run in 2012, and THAT, my friends is SICK, SICK, SICK. Yes, Bill Clinton WAS "the best Republican President we ever had," but I don't think his wife would even be in the top ten of Republican Presidents we've ever had.
