Terror is the Oxygen That Fuels GOP Campaigns

A BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL

One of our staffers wrote a refutation of the newest GOP ad aimed at terrorizing the American public.

Progressives need to understand that these fear tactics work on the great mass of America, because television is the media that can push emotional hot buttons without benefit of the brain -- and because most Americans watch a lot of television.

We all know that Rove has an October terrorist surprise in store, or maybe another bin Laden tape the Friday before the election.

Just remember that Bush is bin Laden's favorite candidate of all time. They have a tacit understanding that they are mutually beneficial to each other. They need each other to maintain their respective power bases.

Bush couldn't be President for a minute, at this point in time, without a perceived or real terror threat. Bin Laden needs Bush's blundering bombing and occupying actions to recruit more terrorists.

Bush needs Osama alive more than he needs Tony Blair. Without a bogeyman and the Orwellian threat of "evil lurking out there," Bush would be history as president -- and so would the Republican majority in Congress.

If 9/11 hadn't had happened -- and Bush took no steps to prevent it, even though he was warned that bin Laden was going to launch an attack against the U.S. -- Rove and Cheney would have had to invent it.

Of course, more than a few people think that they did.

We aren't in that camp, yet. But we sure do believe there are many signs that they let it happen. After all, Bush tossed a CIA briefer out who warned Bush of Osama's intent to harm the U.S., telling the briefer that he had covered his ass and he could leave.

So Bush did nothing to stop 9/11, as we have said over and over again.

Was it pure incompetence (others in the CIA, Rice and probably Cheney were aware of the document) or "benign neglect"? What we do know is that, politically, 9/11 was a Godsend to Rove and the GOP. Terror is the oxygen that fuels GOP campaigns.

You can be sure that come November, Osama is rooting for a Republican rout. After all, Osama doesn't have to do anything to take our liberties and freedom away, create a motivation for potential terrorists to join his cause, or ruin the American economy. Bush is doing all these things for him.

The Democrats, Osama knows, won't play into his hands. So if he had a ballot in November, Osama would be voting a straight Republican ticket.

Link terrorist with GOPers

We typically think of terrorists as those who blow up things. This is their tool - blowing up things. Their other tool is the fear generated by the threat of blowing up things.

The GOPers are perhaps one step back from this - their tool is create fear from the threat of the threat of having things blown up. It's not too far removed from yelling "fire" in a crowded room.

If you take the time to read and compare all the GOPer talking points - it's all about fear and terror.

Given their abandonment of their more historical positions on the issues (i.e fiscal responsibility, smaller government etc) - all they have left to stand on is fear

Terror is the Oxygen that Fuels GOP Campaigns

The best suppressant for the fire of fear that the GOP is using to stoke their failed campaigns is the F. D. R. statement that “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” Sweet Old Bob

Mirror and Mimic the ad

I would replay the same videos and quotations, with different text and explanations. For example, under Murtha, "U.S. marine, war hero. Wants us out of Iraq."

Recall that when the Democrats had an edge on prescription drugs with the slogan, "Patients Bill of Rights," the GOP simply copy-catted "Patients Bill of Rights" until all the punch was drained from the issue.

The Dems can run their own spin on the terrorism ad until both are meaningless because a draw on this issue is a win.

A nice follow up would be tough guy videos of chickenhawk Republicans with text descriptions of their [non-existent] combat records. Tagline: The next war we get in, let's ask the people who've been in one. The Democrats.(Scroll of Democratic veterans, led by Gore and Kerry).

While I don't agree with the previous poster that George Bush secretly blew up the World Trade Center (Why? To save money on tax cuts by killing so many rich guys?), the indisputable fact is that it happened while he was goofing off on vacation and that a similar attack was foiled while Bill Clinton was hard at work in the White House.

See the difference folks?

Democrats make you safe.

Finally, if you really would like experience terror on American soil, try a a hurricane. Or a flood. Or an earthquake or forest fire. Remember New Orleans and the Republican Party.

Then go vote.

Buzzflash off the mark.

Buzzflash has for years refused to even consider the possibility that the attacks of 9/11 were anything other than exactly what the government said. Buzzflash has towed the Bush party line on 9/11 from the beginning. Why?

Why would Buzzflash believe the official government scenario; that we were attacked by Islamic terrorists and the government was so incompetent that it was caught completely by surprise? That is the official story and it is the only one Buzzflash will print.

Why would the editors of Buzzflash, who wouldn't believe a word the government said on any other topic, on the environment, on taxes, on the economy, nothing; why do you still parrot the official government 9/11 conspiracy myth? We now know that the official story is a fraud. The official story requires physical impossibilities (like the fall of the buildings). The official story has no evidence. The official story is so flawed on so many levels that it is incomprehensible that anyone could still believe it, an yet you do. Why?

And here, you write an editorial suggesting (rightly) that terror is "Oxygen" to the GOP yet you seem to think that Carl Rove would wait for Moslems to supply him with this vital oxygen and wouldn't manufacture it himself?

Get real. 9/11 was an inside job and Buzzflash is part of the coverup.

I think you're right

I have studied the evidence surrounding 9/11 for years and came to the conclusion that the WTC buildings could not have collapsed in the manner they did as a result of the airliner strikes. Jet fuel does not burn hot enough to vaporize the massive steel supporting columns, and that had to happen for the buildings to collapse straight down on their foundations. tseving -Surviving Bush one day at a time http://tomcatsbox.spaces.live.com

Who do you believe? bush or your own eyes?

It is indeed extremely hard for people to swallow the idea that 9/11 was a government "false flag" operation. Of all the other crimes, the two most obvious being the rigged elections and the outing of Plame, would seem to be easier to prove and the American people to take. But one doesn't have to look too hard at the evidence of 9/11 before major questions start to arise. And the more you dig the more convinced that 9/11 could not have happened without some form of complicity by our own government. After all, it wouldn't be the first time. There are several examples of "false flag" operations that have cost American lives in the past. The contrived Gulf of Tonkin attack, that resulted in the death of nearly 60,000 Americans and millions of Vietnamese for one. Google "Operation Northwoods" and see what you get, or the attack on the USS Liberty. Buzzflash's refusal to acknowledge that the 9/11 attacks might well indeed have been committed by our own government is right up there with Moveon's blindness with their voter registration campaign to not inform prospective voters that the machines they're voting on may be compromised.

Terrorism and Bush

People in the United States, those who rely on fear, need to realize that George Bush is the world's number one terroist. To tolerate the Bush Administration for another year, another month, andother day or another moment should strike fear in anyone with any amount of gray matter above their shoulders.
