Bush Administration Wants Soviet Style Show Trials for Non-Terrorists!

A BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL

If you are one of those who cringes when you hear assertions such as that "we are descending into fascism," then read the following and please tell us why this is not a factual assessment of the Bush Administration play for Stalin-style absolute powers" The White House is seeking legislation that would allow people not affiliated with terrorism to be prosecuted in military commissions -- with far fewer rights than afforded civilians."

This is a proposal that should send shivers down the spine of anyone who values freedom and justice.

The notion that the Bush Administration was implementing a draconian amputation of our Constitution on behalf of fighting terrorism has long been revealed as something quite different. They are using terrorism and fear to amass unprecedented authoritarian powers compatible with a dictatorship and antithetical to the very concept of democracy.

Let us tell you more about this latest incremental power grab to implement a Pinochet/Stalin/Franco style authoritarian rule, where the individual is subject to the whims of the dictatorship: "A draft Bush administration plan for special military courts seeks to expand the reach and authority of such 'commissions' to include trials, for the first time, of people who are not al Qaeda members or the Taliban and are not directly involved in acts of international terrorism, according to officials familiar with the proposal plan."

And there's more about the effort to undue the American revolution and restore a tyrannical Monarchy: "Under the proposed procedures, defendants would lack rights to confront accusers, exclude hearsay accusations, or bar evidence obtained through rough or coercive interrogations. They would not be guaranteed a public or speedy trial and would lack the right to choose their military counsel, who in turn would not be guaranteed equal access to evidence held by prosecutors."

The Bush Administration continues to offer America only two choices: the risks of freedom or the despotic rule of tyranny. Neither of them offers us absolute security, and the latter almost ensures long-term wars and death, as well as the suspension of our Constitution.

We are now down to the raw basics of a complete power grab by a clique of thuggish rulers who cannot govern or provide basic security. All they can do is excel at using fear to accumulate the powers of a despotic and merciless government.

Those too timid to fight for liberty in Congress should get out of the way.

It's dusk in America -- and we only have a few twilight hours to save democracy and our Constitution.

people like this - an excerpt - "Olshansky is legal director of the hard-Left, New York-based Center for Constitutional Rights, an organization that represents about 300 Guantanamo detainees. Funding for the CCR allowing them to give pro bono representation to Guantanamo terrorists such as Salim Ahmed Hamden, the plaintiff in this case, is derived from a number of suspect sources. Analysts claim that CCR funding includes large amounts from Gulf and Saudi sheiks as well as governments known to sponsor terrorism. Hamden was Osama bin Laden's driver and bodyguard, a position in a terrorist organization that is given only to highly reliable and totally committed jihadists, not someone seeking work to feed his family, as Hamden claimed. Nonetheless, Hamden is hailed as a victim of American fascist imperialism by the CCR and the Legal Left, cited as an example of the many innocents confined at Guantanamo. So what does the Court decision mean for Americans, practically speaking? It does not mean that any of these terrorists now held at Guantanamo will be arbitrarily released or brought before a left-wing judge and set out on bail anytime soon. It does mean that military commissions, being conducted on ten detainees charged with war crimes, including Australian David Hicks and Hamden himself, will be once more placed on hold. The irony is that defense attorneys for these men decry that they have been held without trial and yet these same attorneys spent years and millions of dollars upsetting the process that the president put into place to give them a fair hearing in the first place. Your article is misleading......

First of all, the article you cite is not about "non-terrorists"; it's about people not DIRECTLY associated with terrorism. By "not directly" I take it these are people who may not be card-carrying members of Al-Quaeda, the Taliban or other terrorist group, as well as those who did not actually set off a bomb or commit another act of terrorism with their own hands. These are not "non-terrorists". They have somehow been associated with terrorism, or they never would have ended up behind the walls of Guantanamo or other military facility. Secondly, "according to officials familiar with the proposal plan.", what "officials"? Which ones? There is no source named for the information, and and there is no valid reason why this has been omitted. Why? Better yet, why don't you research it yourself from several sources, including the White House web site? Thirdly, "All they can do is excel at using fear to accumulate the powers of a despotic and merciless government." - it seems the left is the one who is expert at doing that. This article is rife with insinuations and has a deliberately misleading headline, yet offers up not one iota of proof of these allegations. It also contains a plethora of hyperbole (Draconian, Pinochet/Stalin/Franco style authoritarian rule, dictatorship, fascism, blah, blah, blah). For a better perspective on this subject, I suggest you go to www.whitehouse.gov to research this subject.

Your article is misleading...

First of all, who's going to decide who is "not directly" associated with terrorism? Bush? Rumsfeld? Cheney? Oh, that's comforting. The subject of this editorial has already been widely reported. And you tell us to go to the White House website for "perspective"? Sorry. But these people are not to be trusted to make any decisions when it comes to determining who is and who isn't directly associated with terrorism. So far, they've gotten it about 70-90% wrong in Gitmo and Abu Gahrib (sp?). I'm not real comfortable knowing that the status of my freedom is dependent on this bunch.

We need to stand up NOW

"When they came for the communists, I was silent, because I was not a communist; When they came for the socialists, I was silent, because I was not a socialist; When they came for the trade unionists, I did not protest, because I was not a trade unionist; When they came for the Jews, I did not protest, because I was not a Jew; When they came for me, there was no one left to protest on my behalf." I have been trying to tell you people this since 1999

If you still doubt bushco's ability to descend to new moral lows, just take a close look at their family's activities since the 1850's. If you want a quicker study, check into what they did during the 1930s and 40s. They loved the Nazis so much they actually helped them get to power. Prescott was a good little buddy to the Nazis and got caught violating the trading with the enemy act in October 1942. So treason is NOT NEW TO THEM. KJ Lovell

These same allegations regarding Nazi ties can be found in the New Hampshire Gazette (http://nhgazette.com) in an article from October 10, 2003. The article states, "For six decades these historical facts have gone unreported by the mainstream U.S. media. The essential facts have appeared on the Internet and in relatively obscure books, but were dismissed by the media and Bush family as undocumented diatribes." Maybe these things have been unreported because they have no bearing on the President's family today. I looked at the National Archives web site (www.archives.gov), searching "Prescott Bush", "Bush, Harriman, Lievense", and "Nazi's" and came up with nothing regarding any Bush family ties to the Nazi's. Same thing at the Library of Congress web site (www.loc.gov). These are the sources the author of the above-mentioned article cites. Maybe you could point me to the correct page on the National Archives site to go to? I tried to email the author of the New Hampshire Gazette article, John Buchannan, to ask the same question, but apparently the email address given is now "invalid". Maybe that's the reason the author also stated, "Major U.S. media outlets, including ABC News, NBC News, The New York Times, Washington Post, Washington Times, Los Angeles Times and Miami Herald, have repeatedly declined to investigate the story when information regarding discovery of the documents was presented to them beginning Friday, August 29. Newsweek U.S. correspondent Michael Isikoff, famous for his reporting of big scoops during the Clinton-Lewinsky sexual affair of the 1990s, declined twice to accept an exclusive story based on the documents from the archives." (Sheesh, Jim! And you libs are always talking trash about conservatives having "blind loyalty", yet they spout off things without checking them out for themselves.)

Bush family's Dream of a Nazi Regime State in the U.S.

Not only did Prescott Bush helped finance Hitler's war through helping Fritz Thyssen, the most wealthiest man in Germany, but with the help of J.P. Morgan, the Remington, and Dupont families, they'd even went so far as to "enlist" the honorable, and true American hero, and 2 time Congressional Medal of Honor General, Smedley D. Butler to conspire to assassinate Pres. FDR; overthrow the American government, and install a Nazi-style government!

This is in the Congressional records!

Lucky for us, Gen. Butler was a true patriot; infiltrated long enough to find out who the players were, and turned around and informed Congress about this conspiracy.

The Bush family started their wealth with Nazi money.

What I can't understand is, HOW IN THE HELL could Congress NOT convict these people of TREASON, since they still openly doing business in the U.S. even today?!

Is it any wonder why America is fast becoming a Nazi-style country, where the President sworn to uphold, and protect the Constitution is quoted saying: "it's just a goddamn piece of paper!"?

No. Dubya wants to realize his grandfather's vision of a Nazi state; a fourth Reich, and he's well on his way in doing it too.

"The people who cast the votes, decide nothing. The people who count the votes, decide everything." --- Joseph Stalin

"it's just a goddamn piece of paper!"

Where did you get the idea that this is even remotely the truth? All of the links I found that made this allegation say things like, "my sources tell me" (what sources) and "three (unidentified) people told someone else that the President said this"...... Then I found this on the ultra-liberal web site known as www.capitolhillblue.com. The author now has this statement above his December 9, 2005 article alleging that President Bush made that statement. The quote is as follows: "WRITER'S NOTE: When this story was written, three sources told me they personally heard President Bush call the Constitution a "goddamned piece of paper." I have since learned that two of the sources were not present for the meeting and were, in fact, passing on second-hand information. The third now refuses to either confirm or deny the report. That leaves us with a decision. Do we kill the story or add this explanation? I originally killed the story but decided later to restore it to the database because there is still enough information floating around that suggests the President of the United States did make the statement." -- In other words, the author is saying "even though I was LIED to by my "sources", "I will keep this article up because we WANT to believe it's true and it will keep the fire of hatred fueled." This, again, is not journalism. It is a gossip column.

Trials for non-terrorists

If Bush is able to pass this legislation NO American will be safe. Anyone of us could be picked up merely for speaking out against this administration. Tie this legislation in with all the detention camps being built around the country and the whole idea should scare us all!!

How could they build enough prisons and hire enough personnel to imprison every lefty in the country.......within two years?
