If the Democrats Don’t Hit Americans in the Gut with the Truth, The Republicans May Hold One-Party Control For Decades

A BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL

Do you feel outraged and betrayed by the White House?

Do you feel that the Busheviks are more interested in using terrorists as a tool to maintain power than in fighting terrorism?

Do you feel mad as Hell at how fear has been used to manipulate Americans in order to cover up for a failed administration in domestic and foreign policy?

That is what the Dems should get the rest of America to feel; not to think, but to feel in their guts.

However much we kick and scream about the outlandish, immoral fearmongering of the Bush Administration, it works. A recent article in the San Francisco Chronicle explained why. It’s because we haven’t strayed far from the fear of a rabbit being chased by a Rottweiler. What the Bush Administration is doing is just barking very loudly – and a lot of Americans are running for cover in fear. It’s a primal tool of demagogues that works, if it goes unchallenged.

The Democrats need to run ads that simply tell the truth. They’ve already pulled one such add after briefly posting it on the DNC site. That sort of cravenness won’t win elections.

Rove’s campaign of fear, and his narrative of the dastardly enemy who has to be faced down by turning America into a one-party dictatorship will continue to triumph if Bush’s real agenda and record of disastrous initiatives is not exposed directly, bluntly and in 30 second ads.

In the spring of 2004, we ran an editorial early that urged John Kerry to come out and define Bush before Rove defined Kerry. John must have not read our editorial. Because first they stereotyped him as an untrustworthy flip-flopper, then they swift boated him. As a result of Kerry’s failure to forcefully define Bush first, he came off looking like the caricature that the Bush slime machine had made him into.

Right now, despite the tidal wave of anti-Republican sentiment, Bush is going to gain ground with the continued repetition of the appeasement stereotypes of Democrats. This type of demagoguery works.

The Democrats better start running ads of Bush kicking out the CIA briefer who warned him of 9/11; ads of Bush saying when asked what happened to Osama, "I don't know. I don't really think about him very much. I'm not that concerned."; ads of Bush saying there is no relationship between Iraq and 9/11; ads of Rumsfeld saying that the Iraq War would be over in six weeks but no more than six months; ads of the broken promises about the Iraq War turning around soon and being in the "last throes of insurgency."

We could go on and on, but you get the point.

The American people deserve the truth. They need to feel it in the gut. Because elections are no longer won by what goes on in the head; they are won by what goes on in the heart.

The Democrats should give it to them.

Bush is the appeaser; Bush has succeeded in enabling the goal of the terrorists to terrorize us; Bush has failed in defeating al-Qaeda by letting them escape to and live peacefully in Pakistan. Bush has made Iran into a regional power by weakening Iraq.

It’s time to define the Republicans as not being up to fighting a War on Terrorism.

And that’s easy to do, because all the Dems have to do is broadcast the truth. But they have to be brutally honest and pull no punches.

Over and over and over again. Until the truth drowns out the lies.

And Americans feel the truth in the their guts.

Any ideas on how posters can arrange to discuss things without posting e-mails or other info for the world?

Adds for Democrats

First of all, all Republicans should be connected to the Bush administration. Democrats should run ads asking. What would Republicans be saying about Bush if he were a Democrat? For instance. If Bush was a Democrat, what would Republicans say about his lack of exit plan in Iraq? What would they say about his running up the national debt to record amounts? What would they say about his handling of Katrina? What would they say about his misleading lies leading up to the Iraq war? What would they say about the 9/11 attack happening on his watch after he was clearly warned that something like this was very likely to happen? Of course you could go on forever listing Bush transgressions and each time asking, what would Republicans be saying if Bush were a Democrat.

Start with the truth

I think the best weapon against the Republicans is "The Truth". Have the facts to back up anything said. Just list fact after fact. Make them answer the facts. Don't let them spin. There are enough Truths out there you could fill the air space right up till the election. Tell the American people the truth and how the lies this Administration has been telling hurts us.

"culture of corruption" was step in right direction--go farther

The first smart move the Democrats did in terms of PR was talk up the "culture of corruption." They need to go farther with that, and make it a touchstone for most of their criticisms of the GOP. Why don't we have universal health care? Corruption of politicians by insurance companies. Why did we invade Iraq? Corruption by oil companies. The heart of Republican ideas are self-evidently open forms of corruption: privatization and deregulation. The former allows cronies to profit from services the government could do more efficiently, and the latter allows big businesses to literally blackmail average Americans as happened with the rolling blackouts here in California. We cannot afford to have elected officials who put the interests of their donors businesses ahead of the interests of the American people.

TV AD

Show Bush expressing his concern over WMD--- Then show Saddam H in prison or in the dock. ---Then show Bush making the statement "Mission Accomplished"--- Then show Bush accusing the Dem's of waving the "white flag of surrender." -------------Then have a voice ask the question---With no danger from WMD; with Saddam in jail for over 2 years, and with the "mision accomplished" how can anybody be accused of surrending? At least one of these statements must be false. Since we now know that there are no WMD that endanger us, and Saddam is definately out of action that means that either the mission isn't what the President said it was or it's time to plan or departure. In either case, someone hasn't been telling the American people the truth!

Democratic ad suggestion

Dogooder? You bet!

advertisement,commercial,etc.

bobbyjay, why not a collage of the last 6 years beginning with the supreme courts decision to appoint this bastard and continue through to today just to see how this country has fallen in the last 6 years.finnished off with the reagan closing that if you think you are better off then 6 years ago, vote rethug, but if you want change and a new direction for the country vote dem.

"What Part of Home of the Brave Don't You Understand?" Part II

Same general idea as the first ad. Start with a collage of well know administration types using words like "terror" and "danger" and "alert". This time the culminating image is of a middle aged woman unlocking the door of a place of business and bumping into a man (who looks muslim) as he is entering. For a moment, she looks panicked. Fade to black and silence. Now the scene is peaceful. The man and the woman are discussing the purchase of some property. She is a real estate agent. He wants to buy a house. His wife is there. She is pregnant. Same voice over as before.

"What Part of Home of the Brave Don't You Understand, Mr. Bush?"

A montage of Bush and administration officials repeating the word "terror", "threat" and similar words with the color coded terror warnings superimposed across the bottom half of the screen, orange slowly changing to red and tense music in the background. Continue the litany of "terror", "threat", "danger" coming from Bush, Cheney and other recognizable administration figures but now show scenes of long chaotic lines in airports, long lines in grocery stores, a traffic jam on a bridge where a road block has been set up, a mother hurriedly snatches up her child, the screen goes to red. A split second of silence. Then the scene changes to the front steps of a brownstone house somewhere in a big city. The same mother and child are sitting side by side on their front steps eating ice cream cones. There is no music. The ambient noise is pleasant, relaxing street sounds. Someone is walking a dog. Ordinary street scene. Voice over says "What part of home of the brave dont you understand, Mr. Bush?"

Concentrate on the Senate and House

The upcoming election is NOT for President. The important elections in 2006 are for the Senate and for the House. It is important that commercials clearly implicate the do-nothing nature of the Senate and House over the last six years. For the most part, the public has already turned against the President. What is needed now is to leverage this change of attitude and focus the voters' attention on the complicity of their own Republican Senators and Representatives.

I don't mean to focus on McCamy Taylor's submission, which I actually find to be a quite good one. My comment concerns this particular submission only as an example of a problem I see with many, if not most, of the suggested commercials, (and this includes some of my own). I chose this one as my example only because it was near the top.

Suggestion for Commercial to disarm the GOP fearmongering

Background in Black and White: Actual re-runs, visual and audio, of Bush & Cheney blaming 9/11 on Osama bin Laden, repeating the name Osama bin Laden, 9/11, Osama bin Laden, 9/11, Osama bin Laden, 9/11..... Foreground in color with a Yellow/Green overlay: Louder: Re-run, visual and audio, of Bush repeating over and over and over again: "I DON'T KNOW WHERE BIN LADEN IS. I HAVE NO IDEA AND REALLY DON'T CARE. IT'S NOT THAT IMPORTANT. IT's NOT OUR PRIORITY" and: "I AM TRULY NOT THAT CONCERNED ABOUT HIM."

Repeat often, rinse, dry

copy for ad to be put in endless rotation until November 7th- This election day the choice is stark and simple: Republicans equal permanent bases in Iraq and unending terrorism. Democrats equal temporary bases in Iraq and shrinking terrorism. Republicans like low wages, reduced freedoms, and the government in our personal affairs. Democrats like higher wages, increasing freedoms and the government out of our personal affairs. Republicans think one party rule means no oversight. Democrats think oversight is mandatory no matter who is in power. This election day vote American, vote Democratic.

A Wake Up Call Commerical

Scene #1 - Nighttime in Anytown USA - camera focuses on one particular house - all the lights are out but one - camera zooms close to window with the light on - a voice is heard to say, "The Lord Our Savior Jesus Christ has condemned you to death for the murder of hundreds of innocent unborn children. The sentence will now be carried out. May God have mercy on your soul. - then the sound of machine-gun fire is heard and flashes of light are reflected in the window - obviously, a doctor who has performed abortions has just been executed.

Scene #2 - Daytime in Anytown USA - on a busy street, the camera focuses on a building with a sign that reads "County Democratic Party" - a small group of what looks like a SWAT team approaches - each team member carries a bazooka - they fire their bazookas into the Democratic HQ and blow it up - the only person to survive the blast tries to run away - one of the SWAT team members shoot HER dead with a machine gun - nearby, two local policemen watch what's happening and they applaud and cheer.

Scene #3 - Nighttime in Anytown USA - camera focuses on a building with a sign that says "Gay Bar" - inside the patrons are drinking and talking, nothing more - the same SWAT team bursts through the door and mows down the patrons with machine gun fire - as this happens, the camera focuses on the shoulder of one of the shooters - on it is the badge of the National Security Agency.

Scene #4 - Daytime in Anytown USA - worshippers bow in the direction of Mecca as prayers to Allah are being performed inside a local American mosque - the NSA SWAT team again bursts through the door and starts to mow down the worshippers with machine gun fire - the scene then starts to move in slow motion - we see the SWAT team shooting their guns, the worshippers falling to the ground bloody and in agony, a veiled wife of one of the worshippers, who is visibly pregnant is shot in the belly as she comes to her husband's aid - the camera slowly pulls back to survey the damage as the carnage continues - while all this is happening, we heard the sound of a little girl singing new words to a recognizable song:

Jesus loves me
This I know
For the Bible tells me so
Kill the Liberals, Moslems and fags,
Stuff them all in body bags.

Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus hates you
The Lord wants me to kill you
The Bible tells me so.

Then the scene fades - Then the following words appear:

"This is America’s future under the Republican Party."

Then that fades and a new graphic appears:

"Vote Democratic. The Country you save will be your own."

The End?

Comments

I think this can be made into a one-minute commercial. We need to shock the American People and impress upon them the seriousness of the threat to America, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights that today's Republican Party poses. We should fear our own government much more than any foreign terrorist.

Yes, I know a commercial like this will never be produced or aired, but coming up with the idea is a way for me to blow off steam.

Doh!

People...People...People...Have we not figure it out yet?!?!? Democrat/Replublican/Independant...It's neither here nor there...They just don't give a rat's ass!!!!! Voting Democratic this Nov?? Go ahead...I think it's a litte to late..But what the heck..I will. Honestly, the best thing you can do is know your enemy...and of course prepare for the worst. I do, I work out three days a week, stock plenty of ammo and read up on everything from world event's to cooking with can o'sterno. I often wonder how a country such as our's can muster 5 billion dollars to send a probe to a burned out planet, just to crash into the damn thing. Yet ironically, there are millions of American's that are jobless, homeless and uninsured and the number's grow daily. Like I alway's say "fuck em' and feed em' fish head's" it really doesn't matter to me who the hell's in office anymore...it's all headed down the same broken ass busted up track. What American's need to remember is this....Sacrifice!!!! That's what built this country...Sacrifice. Try giving up a little so that someone else might know comfort. American's are all to busy watching CSI, Ophrah, Katie Couric??? who the fuck is KATIE COURIC!!!!! Will she pay my rent this month??? doubt it!!! or some other mindless garbage..Wake the fuck up and turn the damn idiot box off! Read a book, talk to your neighbor, take a long walk, clear your damn head and look at what is right in front of you! Jose' the Illeagal Alien ain't gonna do this one for us for a shit wage! It's going to take sacrifice on every front...To borrow a lyric from and old rocker friend of mine..."Stand up! the more you do it, the less you fall down!"

Need To Define A Contract With America

I've wished since 2002 that the Democratic Party would come up with their own Contract with America. Most of us have no idea what the D Party really stands for as it is a conglomeration of ideas that seem to come and go based upon the whims of so-called Party leaders. Americans want to know what a Party stands for and what they will work to accomplish. Put it in writing as the Repubs did in the 90s.

My own beliefs are it should reflect:

1/ Priority to develop a national healthcare system that will work to put the cost of healthcare into healthcare and not into the profits of big business healthacre providers.

2/ Work to limit CEO compensation that has truly become outlandishly excessive in view that compensation and benefits for most Americans are decreasing

3/ Work to balance the budget and make America fiscally healthy along with its economy by eliminating the tax cuts for those who have already done the best financially, those earning over $200K.

4/ Require that any declaration of war in the future be made by Congress along with the rules of engagement of said war. No more open ended policies that allow the President, regardless of Party, to write his own war rules internally and externally.

5/ Require that laws pertaining to hiring of illegal immigrants be strictly enforced by Homeland Security and that violators be severely reckoned with and punished.

6/ Oppose any estate tax cuts that would result in entrenching the mega rich as an elite class.

7/ Require that the social security fund be made solvent via both increases in witholding tax, tax on investments for those of great wealth and possible changes in eligibility. But no privatization.

8/ Require that the media be de-consolidated and divested so that we no longer have the large media monopolies.

9/ Require that any future declaration of war be funded with immediate tax increases dedicated to that war that are applicable to all citizens and business.

10/ Require that all voting machines in the country be provided with paper verification and meet the logical requirements of integrity specified by such groups as Black Box, etc.

11/ Require that all voters provide proof that they are elibible US Citizens.

12. Require that corporations that outsource pay higher taxes. These are just to name a few. But we need something to measure the success or failure of the Party before we vote for them. The Democratic Party must project that they support the citizens of the USA for the betterment of the USA. If they do they will win elections. Etc.

Alice in Wonderland

Has not the last six years seemed a bit like being in Lewis Carrol's world?

Someone clever with media might be able to turn the following commentary about signing statements into a good commercial:

Alice in Wonderland

When I use a word, Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less.

The question is, said Alice, whether you can make words mean so many different things.

The question is, said Humpty Dumpty, which is to be master - that's all.

The Decider in Deciderland

When I sign a law the Decider said, in a rather scornful tone, it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less.

The question is, said Alice, whether you can make the laws mean so many different things.

The question is, said The Decider, who is The Decider - that's all.

the Mad Hatter - all hat no cattle!

The people to ask are the ones who have come around, and they are out there.

Maybe ask Kathleen Sebelius' running mate in Kansas. He was a Repug. I know that if we try to reach them with our sensibilities in mind we may not get them.

just my two cents,

just read an AP story on the guardian that southern women are breaking up with bush, Frankly i think it will be easier to reach women than men.

godd, it better happen soon.....

peace-

Doing Better

The Republicans in power right now are the most dishonest, unprincipled people I've ever seen in US government. When Democrats say "we can do better" (as J. Kerry repeatedly said in 2004 and as Howard Dean recently said) they aren't saying much. These Republicans are so evil that nothing but outrage should be expressed by Democrats. Not just outrage over the war and high gas prices, but outrage over the lying, K Street lobbyists running the country, crumbling infrastructure, the decline of the middle class, cronies running the government, the nasty/angry/hateful speech the right uses, incompetence in managing the government, the descent from record budget surplus to record deficits, the threat to balance of powers, use of torture, etc. Americans will respond positively to expressions of righteous anger!! Slidell Democrat

Republican Money Train

This for Las Vegas .. Scene #1 - A huge locomotive, bellowing dark smoke, rushes past the camera, pulling mile after mile of leaking tankers of radioactive sludge. The tankers glow green against the night sky. Scene #2 - The camera follows along with the locomotive. On the side of the train is a huge Republican banner, covered in black soot and grime. As the train bumps and grinds along, green radioacive goo splatters across the landscape. Scene #3 - A shot from behind the train. You can see the train is heading towards the lights of Las Vegas. Logo at the end - "The Republicans are here to Deliver"

Commercial Suggestion

Cartoon: George Bush and Dick Cheney are sitting over some papers at the desk in the oval office. Two busts are on the desk, the one of Hastert has the name HOUSE on it and the other is a bust of Frist having the name SENATE one it. Bush and Cheney are busy marking up the paper on the desk.

After some time we see the paper and it is the Bill of Rights but only the second ammendment remains not crossed off. It has been ammended to read simply, Born agin Christians got the right to carry weapons.

In turn, Bush takes the Busts (which turn out to be rubber stamps) inks them and stamps the revised Bill of Rights into law. Stick characters in the corner say to one-another What ever happened to checks and balances?

3rd try for (216 and 1--W has the L)

The United States Constitution was ratified in 1789 and went into force on March 4, 1789. On September 11, 2001 this nation was 212 years, 6 months, and 1 week old. In our 212 year history we had gone through 42 presidents and 10 major wars involving foreigners from the War of 1812 through the first Gulf War. In those 212 years we had not sustained an attack in the CONUS (Continental United States--the lower 48) by a foreign nation, foreign nationals, or agents of a foreign nation with such a devastating impact in regards to loss of life (nearly 3000 killed), loss of property (the WTC complex and over $8 billion), and loss of our national sense of security and a heightened sense of vulnerability, UNTIL Bush/Cheney took office. That is an historical fact. Now this is not to say that just because a particular president was in office when something bad took place then it is necessarily that president's fault, but the republican logic seems to be this…"Sense we were in the white house when our nation suffered the most devastating attack in our history on our soil, therefore we are the ones who are strong on defense." Can someone help me out with this logic? They now say that there is no accident that we haven't been attacked in five years (Atty. Gen. Gonzales and the VP), insinuating that all of the highly and arguably illegal and unconstitutional measures they have taken since 911 is what is keeping us safe. The logic is sense we haven't been attacked in 5 years then we are doing something good. There is a flip side to that coin. We had not been attacked in 212 years UNTIL you got in office. You must logically conclude that those other 42 presidents were doing something right and you (Republicans, Bush, and Cheney) must ask yourselves were you (same bunch) doing something terribly wrong to facilitate such an attack. The logic of if not attacked then we are doing something very right logically concludes that if attacked we were doing something terribly wrong. For all intents and purposes this country was 212-0 until Bush got in office. We are now 216 and 1. W has the L. I say that "for all intents and purposes" we were 212 and 0 until Bush/Cheney, but the WTC was attacked once before. This occurred just 38 days into President Clinton's administration, after Reagan/Bush I had occupied the White House for 12 consecutive years. I have never heard anyone blame or even insinuate that Reagan and Bush were responsible for that mess that happened as soon as Clinton took office like I hear ABC and all of the president's people claiming that since Clinton had been in office for 8 years and 911 happened only 8 months after Bush took office then it was Clinton's fault. Last of all, no military commander allows things that happen on his watch to be blamed on his predecessor who is no longer in command. This goes straight to your INTEGRITY! By the way, do you ever wonder why we are now living in a post 911 environment as opposed to a post millennium bombing environment? Clinton stopped the Millennium bombing by putting people on ALERT. Do you remember the alerts before 911 after Bush had been warned that Bin Ladin was determined to attack in America? Jamal

What has it come to?

I agree with catwoman about needing a media with a backbone. where are the Murrow's? that man brought down one of the most fearmongering SOB's ever to be in office, until those in the current administration. rumsfeld has been at it longer than any of these. when i watch footage of him during the Nixon and Ford administrations, it feels like deja-vu, but instead of Bin Laden and terrorists, he's talking about the communists. making statements based on theories with no backing evidence. when i see footage of him during Bush 1's administration, again, it's the same thing, only different. now, well, i don't need to mention what everyone else is clearly seeing. we've reached the point again where the nation is divided, where we have the worst situation of possible situations. we are guided again by fear. McCarthy was not nearly as successful because one man on television and a few in the press had the courage to stand up. we have that in the print media, and the new internet media, but we don't have that on television. tuesday, i watched Paula Zahn talk for two hours about the death of Steve Irwin! she wasn't the only one either. one of the largest news networks spent most of the day talking about a dead australian who we were not at all surprised had been killed. we were all surprised he lived that long. and good for him that he did, but the same day scores of people died in Iraq, Palastine, Sudan, and countless other regions throughout the world. this is going on and we're mourning the crocodile hunter. PATHETIC! worse still, the democrats still have no real plan, which doesn't put them it a good position. when they are called out on this, what will be their response other than the same crap they've been spewing for the last weeks. it's not enough to claim you have a plan and what your intentions are. at this point, you have to assume that your public isn't as stupid as you've been led to believe through out this administration. this, sadly, isn't what is happening. they assume, still, that we're all stupid. the media doesn't want to touch the hottest news since Vietnam. even if democrats regain control, what good is it going to do other than give us relief from a fanatical administration. our country will only be a little bit better off than they were before. it reminds me of an interview i saw on german television with a member of germany's green party, three years after they had become the coalition partners of Gerhard Schroeder's social democrats. the program's host was asking the member of the green party why the party had not pushed all the environmental and social issues that they had promised to puch as coalition partners in the campaign. his answer was simple and honest. he basically said that once you get into a position of power, you don't rock the boat so much that you loose your position, so you pick and choose your battles. the fact that the german greens did not keep their promises has led to them becoming a marginal party once again. sure, they are better off than before their day in the sun, but they've lost the faith of those who voted for them. this is the same for democrats here in the country. people have lost faith in them. sure, they are the lesser of two evils, but how can anyone believe in them. their words are as empty as that of the administration, but they are not trying to scare us. plus we hop that they'll tax the hell out of the rich. anyhow, no change of consequence will come about until the televised media does their job and exposes our politicians for what they are and also holds them to their promises, something that no network has really done with Bush. until that day comes, we're in for more years of stagnation and embarrasment.

your editorial today about democrats in congress

Feingold introduced a censure resolution in the Senate in March, and only 2 Senators:Harkin and Boxer supported him. Kerry slithered in, in May, late to the party. There are 51 Republicans and 48 Democrats in the US Senate.Other than these 4, the Democrats have no guts. Bush couldn't have gotten this far without their collaboration, like Hillary, the slut. I was so disgusted, I changed my party registration to Independent in 2003.I'm voting for every challenger in Nov.06. But it's about time we think about laying the groundwork for a strong 3rd party movement for 2008. How about the Patriot Party, with John Murtha running for President, and Howard Dean as Vice President. Hell of a great ticket! And they would win, hands down.

Pride in America

Soon France will have created at least 2 engineering marvels: a bridge that is higher than the Eifel Tower and a new tunnel under the Alps. They have a high-speed train system that competes with airplanes for comfort and speed. What has our government done to create pride in what America can do? America needs to build engineering marvels, initiate programs to send men to Mars, create sources of non-carbon-based energy in ways that are not only effective, but in ways that illuminate the immaginations of our people, especially our youths. It is relatively easy to destroy things. It is a powerful statement to create them. Rome had her roads, coliseums and aquaducts. If America wants to be remembered for her good works we must continue to create them.

The bedwetter thugs

OMG....remember how the skid-stained panties thugs were quivering at Clinton's idea that we cross our great country with high speed rail? Oh, no, they wailed, we couldn't afford it! Instead we can afford to murder off the brown people here and abroad ---including the next generation thanks to the depleted uranium. Oh, we can afford bottomless debt and endless bloodshed. But hear the Naderites (thugs in Liebermanish c-loathing) from NH wail at the idea we spend our taxes...that is to say OUR money, on improving our country with something like highspeed rail. How girlyman! Any woman who spreads for a foul sweating thug is a traitor to this country. The ancient Greeks knew the way to stop the warmongers.

Commercials?

It's not so much that we need to think up commercials - we need to find TV networks that will air them! Catwoman

Half right

They also need to air the truth instead of give time to thug blowhards and call that "commentary."

totally agree!

i really do. we also need to find networks that will actually report news as well. what are the chances?

Republicans have a lot to say. Democrats have a lot to do.

just a thought for a slogan. I also think something as simple as adopting the color green would be good. Get away from the blue and red color schemes.

"NOTHING"

I think the best Bush quote to use in a commercial was one of his more recent quotes from a news conference. While Bush was pontificating on terrorism and 911 one of the reporters asked "what does Iraq have to do with that" and bush asked "what" and the reporter responded "911" to which Bush answered "NOTHING". "What did Iraq have to do with 911" and Bush saying "NOTHING" is the best possible proof of Bush's Iraq war lie!

Can Democrats Fix Our Delusional Democracy?

I seriously question whether any Democrats have the will, courage and capability to institute the policy and government reforms necessary to restore our democracy and bring justice to our economy. Hatred of Republicans and the Bush administration is well founded, but that does not necessarily equate to great confidence in Democrats; see my article Do Democrats Deserve Your Vote? on opednews.com. Just remember that a Democratic win this year could lead to a Republican presidential victory in 2008. In our delusional democracy - freedom for all, prosperity for few

Suggestion for commercial

Cartoon: As a doctor spanks a newborn baby into breathing, George Bush arrives to present the baby with a bill for his share of the national debt. Subsequently George slaps the new dad on the back, lifts a cigar from his pocket and lights it while leaving the room with a big smirk.

A TV Commercial For Democrats

I would ask directly to American voters and citizens: Would you like America restored to normalcy? Are you tired of life in America always being in a state of fear and panic? If Democrats are given the chance they can return our country to a state af calm and rational thinking. Going off half-cocked and starting a war based on lies is not our MO. Looking out for the needs and cares of all citizens rich and poor, lucky and unlucky is what we Democrats do. Defending our country militarily without political games and propaganda to support a failed policy is what we do. Republicans are reading these ideas right now on this blog and they will use them if they like them.

It won't make any difference

Democrats need to take a lesson from the PRD legislators in Mexico. There's only one thing they should be focused on and that's election fraud. Until they secure the nation's all too easily hackable electoral system, everything else is beside the point because they're never going to win anything. They won't win either house this year, and afterward the media will blather on about how Democrats were rejected by an electorate that is more conservative than anyone realized, and it will all be an illusion. Just like last time.

estoy de acuerdo (I agree)

I'm afraid you're right. I'm afraid you're right. Yeap, I had to say it twice. Jamal

Peg them for the Lies

Open with Donald Rumsfeld explaining how long it will take (6 days, 6 weeks unlikey it will take 6 months). Go to the Secretary of State explaining how the weather trucks were for WMDs and the alluminum tubes for uranium and the yellow cake was from Nigeria. Show how Bush promised to help the Katrina people and show New Orleans still devasted. Then flash: No Child Left Behind -- Unfunded. -- Clear Skies Initiative -- Failure -- Super Fund -- no more cleanups -- Crumbling infrasturre -- Ungarded chemical plants -- Trains filled with Toxic Materials going right through the middle of DC -- Nazis recruited to fill the ranks of the military. +++ And finally show the 2 towers and the headlines in La Monde saying "we are all Americans" contrasted with crowds of people marching against the IRaq war. == Ask finally: Are all of these people wrong? === Answer: We don't think so -- Vote Democratic.

Ad Idea

Open with bin laden's 1996 speech calling on the US to take the military out of Saudi Arabia and raise the price of oil.

On Sept 11th 2001 Bin Laden attacted The US, George Bush Vowed to bring him to justice dead or alive.

On 3/13/02 G.W. Bush said, "I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."

In April 2003 The US Military Begins pulling out of Saudi Arabia.

in 2005 Crude oil prices go over $50.00 a gallon for the first time since 1975.

No wonder George bush and Republicans aren't concerned about Bin Laden, They have met all his demands.

War For Profit

Bush's war for profit has left every child behind. The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall jostle one against the other in the broad ways; they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings. Nahum 2:4

DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE MESSENGER

Hey, as much as I agree that TV is THE medium in politics these days, and as much as I respect Marshall McLuhan, we must also realize that the MESSENGER is all important too! If we as Democrats once again select a nominee for president who doesn't get out there and put up a gutsy, in-your-face, mano-a-mano fight with the GOP nominee, then we will lose once again. Advance a Democratic agenda and fight at the same time! Howard Dean would have put up that kind of fight against W in 2004. What we need is a nominee who throughout the campaign and particularly during the debates will call it like it is... "You, Sir, have been MISLEADING / LIEING TO / MANIPULATING the American people!" etc. etc. Let's not once again play the gambit of trying to massage our core values in favour of the ellusive "independent" voter. By leaving so many liberals on the sidelines, that approach just doesn't make sense. If we select another "centrist" candidate who is intent on sitting on the fence on issues of substance (e.g., withdrawal from Iraq) in favour of promoting issues that don't matter to the well-being of most Americans and their economic interests (e.g., a ban on flag burning), then we are toast... and should be toast. Let's choose a powerful, truly Democratic nominee for 2008! Oh, and my TV ads? Simply video of my nominee fighting like heck! Simple yet powerful! A message that like a drum beat will wake up America!!!

Uninspected cargo

I still think that uninspected cargo is one of our biggest dangers. How about a scene in which 20 pieces of cargo are lined up and we see someone inspect one of them. There is nothing dangerous in that piece and all 20 pieces move down a conveyor belt when all of a sudden an explosive device goes off in one of the remaining 19 pieces creating a lot of damage. A voice over can say "A 5% inspection rate just isn't good enough." There could also be a line which says "We are spending (some amount) in Iraq so there isn't enough left to inspect 100% of the cargo."

And After Taking That First Hit - From Throughout The Land

"I knew it all along - That the truth's the opposite of what we've been told - Tthat it's up to me to do something about it."

Horse Bill

Let's keep it current and kind of fresh without bashing Bush himself for a change. How about this; Solemn voice-over guy: "With all the problems facing our nation today" (still shots of Osama, Kim- Jong Il, radical Islamists burning the flag, Katrina file photos, etc. fading in and out.) "here's what the Republican- controlled Congress thought should be their top priority in the latest session of the House of Representatives." (Cut to C-Span footage of Republicans making floor speeches about the importance of protecting the horsies of the world instead of doing the same for the people of the world.)

VOTING OUT OF FEAR FOR MORE INEPT GOP LEADERSHIP IS APPEASEMENT

If Rummy actually thinks we're in some WWIII, world domination scenario he shouldn't be serving up another day's worth of "GOP Security Theater." ARE YOU AFRAID NOW?? ARE YOU AFRAID NOW?? ARE YOU FEARFUL NOW?? Given the fact that he made such a consistent cock-up of a piss-ant small operation like Iraq, he and his bosses should all resign. This inept leadership is totally out of its diplomatic and military depth in tiny Iraq which is only twice the size of Idaho and equal in population (sans Kurds) to metropolitan NYC. If there are larger threats to world peace, real or imagined, then this is not the leadership group sane voters should heed or follow. What we should fear is more of this ideologically constrained, diplomatically and militarily inept leadership which has reduced America to a lightning rod of hate and mistrust. This inept leadership, by habitually transgressing international legal and moral conventions, has reduced America to the status of a “rogue state“: without allies or solutions not entailing brutality and fear. If the Democrats want to serve up some fear, they should point out that Osama is merrily making videos, Iraq is in flames despite untold thousands of deaths and half a Trillion dollars has been wasted. Also 'The Great Satan,' as the U.S. is affectionately known, is not only more reviled, it is significantly less feared, with all the repercussions attendant thereto.. If voters this fall do anything to let Rummy, Cheney and el nino de Crawford remain in power, then they, the voters, will be the appeasers to policies of fear from an inept and disgraced leadership. (originally cognitorex Daily Kos Diary 8.1.06)

US more reviled, less feared

Just because it's true, how do you plan to sell the idea to the bedwetters who really believe their little backwoods hovel in Texas is going to be invaded? You think they are going to admit to wearing diapers over the "terrusts?" They think responding in fear is bravery. War is peacekeeping. You name it. We're losing in Iraq? Bush was on a monthlong vacation and ignored 9/11 warnings? Clinton's fault! See how it works?

Editorial

Although I love Buzzflash and I agree, in principle, with your editorial, your writers need to stop alluding to the ficticious theory that Islam, Al Quida, or Muslims had anything to do with 9/11. As those of us who have searched for alternative explanations have discovered, it is as plain as day that this administration planned and carried out the 9/11 attack on our nation. Sadly, I believe they have full intentions of doing it again to prop up their World War III ambitions. Defeating some made up enemy won't make us safer. Only in arresting, trying and imprisoning those associated with the Bush administration and family, can we begin walking a path to a safer, more peace loving world. Please, Buzzflash, get with the program. You know you believe I'm right.

Tag Phrase Suggestion

This isn't a suggestion for an ad, but for a tag phrase to go at the end of one. The tag phrase is: "The Democrats. Reality-based government." It's a play on what an un-named Bushco official (probably Karl Rove) told Ron Suskind for his book "The Price of Loyalty." This might appeal to independent and moderate Republican voters who are not ideologically inclined to support the Democrats but can't abide the incompetence, corruption and sheer loopiness of Rethuglican policy under Wee Prince Georgie.

Points to make to drive out GOP

1. Borders opened fully 2. Soldiers prosecuted for being soldiers 3. Drugs flooding in thru open borders 4. Almost zero prosecution of apprehended terrorists in the USA 5. Huge increase in Muslim terrorism in USA 6. Obscene war profiteering 7. Governmental funding of alien rights marches 8. Turning over USA ports and USA defence manufacturing facilities to Muslim terrorist-related companies 9. President saying he is good friends with Saudis who are the largest funding source of terrorism and educating children to hate USA

Soldiers being prosecuted for being soldiers

This one burns me up. The soldiers were ordered to murder military age males. Why aren't those who did the ordering facing the firing squad?
