Dr Kevorkian is Alive and Well and Living in the White House. Escalation of Troops in Iraq is Not a Political Act; It is Murder.

A BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL

How many years and lies ago was it that Bush stood on the deck of an aircraft carrier – as part of a perfectly choreographed Rovian media "money shot" moment – and declared that major combat operations in Iraq were over and that the "mission" had been accomplished?

How many years ago, how many deaths ago, how many catastrophic injuries ago, how many billions of dollars ago was that?

How many lies and shifting story lines and excuses for bungling, corruption, ineptitude, war profiteering and psychiatric problems ago was that?

How many years ago was it that Bush – doing his John Wayne macho imitation – declared that he was going to get Osama "dead or alive"?

The corporate media is still by and large giving this madness a free ride. Their major corporate cultural goal of ensuring no political repercussions to their bottom line ensures that they won’t rock the boat by denouncing the insanity and criminality of escalating a lost war. They too are accessories to murders.

Because real American GIs will die as a result of Bush’s soon-to-come escalation of the war decision. These will be men and women with real names and families, from America’s towns and cities who will be killed as a result of this political decision, which is really a criminal act – because it is a death sentence given to Americans in the military to achieve the personal, political, and corporate profiteering goals of Bush, Cheney and Rove.

Recently we watched "The U.S. vs. John Lennon" to review it as a premium for BuzzFlash. We were stunned by how similarly Nixon escalated the Vietnam War under the pretext of ending it. He too promised that the South Vietnamese forces were being successfully trained to take over the duties of the American GIs as a pretext for increasing the number of American troops who were sent to die in that God forsaken, mistaken conflict. Nixon too secretly extended the war into neighboring nations – in defiance of Congress – and thus unleashed the murderous regime of Pol Pot. All this was done in the name of not letting "a victory by the enemy" inflict a mortal blow to American national security.

Not long ago, Bush traveled to Vietnam for some photo ops. He inexplicably declared that the evolution of Vietnam into a quasi-capitalist nation was a lesson that justified the Iraq War. The mainstream media, of course, did not question the perplexing and mystifying analogy to the Iraq War.

Because, of course, Vietnam became a major cheap labor market for multi-national corporations only years after Gerald Ford withdrew U.S. forces from that nation. The Vietnam analogy can only lead to one conclusion, and not the misleading one that Bush made. What it means is that we should get the Hell out of Iraq now if we want a resolution to the conflict.

Who knows, maybe in 10 years Nike and Coca-Cola can start exploiting workers in Iraq if we withdraw our troops?

But common sense, accountability, and competence were long ago abandoned by the corporate media as standards by which to judge the sociopathic Bush – and his Machiavellian ventriloquists: Mr. Cheney and Mr. Rove.

The real Jack Kevorkian is still in jail, but his spirit haunts America in the actions of George W. Bush.

These are men who love death too much, who get some erotic thrill out of sending people off to die.

Kevorkian was sent to jail.

Why is Bush treated in any other way?

insult

thats an insult to the great doctor comparing him to the 'sociopath'
we call president-dr.kevorkian loves
people & only did what he did to stop
suffering & only after his patients
requested his help-you should print
a retraction buzz!!!!

Bad Analogy

With all due respect to Buzzflash, the comparison between Mr. Bush and Dr. Kevorkian is a great unkindness to the doctor. Kevorkian's motivation was compassion. Bush does not comprehend it.

Would that the two could change places.

TROOPS OUT NOW opens the door to impeachment

...because in our struggle to force Congress to cut off all funds for the Iraq war, we shall have forged the unity and spirit that is a must if a movement such as ours is to change the world.

Kervorkian

Your comment about Dr. Kervorkian it totally out of place and out of line.
Howe dare you make such a stupid analogy!

Don't compare the idiot living in the white house to a doctor who had compassion for suffering humans!!!!Dr. Kervorkian is a hero with a conscience.

true

i agree with everything you said because Dr.kevorkian is my hero ive did research on him for 2 years all in my english class... kevorkian did what he believes in, bush just tries to fix his daddy's screw ups

Bush=Kevorkian? C'mon!

I was totally in accord with this editorial, until the end when the Kevorkian metaphor was used.

Big diff between The Front Man for the Bush Crime Family, and Jack Kevorkian, who was engaged in mercy for people who needed to "move on," from earthly suffering.

And the very forces that were responsible for railroading a real hero to spend the rest of his aging life in prison, are the very same neo-cons, and Religious Wrongs who help to drive the genocide, and repression of fundamental freedoms we experience in this country, today.

Long live Jack Kevorkian! Jail the pseudo-Christian Jehadists!

Maybe you can do something to redeem yourself by encouraging your readers to lobby for Jack's release, as he is aged and ill.

IMPEACH THE BUSHISTS AND ...

YANK FREE!

stop nazis at all cost !

America,

You are ruled by madmen. Warmongers intent on escalating towards total war, not to mention starting brand new ones, nuclear wars since you have no more boots to put on the ground (you know... Iran).

Americans... Democrats... What are you going to do about it?

Look at all the cabinet / brass changes... These are signs of full speed ahead disaster coming. Just like before the tsunami, the water is receding, and you just stand there in disbelief... soon to be wiped out... Not knowing much what to do.

But deep down, you do know... What are you going to do about it?

The time for sterile blogging, bitching and yakking is over.

Now is the time for ACTION: resistance, for hanging those deserving to be hung, for general strikes, for taking the streets, for armed insurrection, assassinations, sabotage at all levels and on all scales and on all actors, economic, media, gestapo, political, "religious", etc.. by any and all means.

Do you really believe the israel lobby beholden democrats are gonna stand against any of this?

They won't even utilize their power of the purse, much less impeach.

Now, we're headed for a constitutional crisis of epic proportions... The nazi bullies will go all the way, they don't care the damage to that "goddamn piece of paper". If the democrats blink at all, even in the slightest, regardless of the excuse or talking point rationale, they will lose, we will lose, and we will die; the so called democrats will then deserve the rope as much as the nazis. The democratic party will, in effect, cease to exist. So beware those whose allegiance might be more to israel than America, i.e. emmanuel, lieberman, hilary, etc... There is no compromise possible whatsoever, our lives are on the line! But, to be true, I'm not holding my breath.

(BTW... Do you really believe that the democrats won anything or could it be that those who rig elections need to have the democrats supposedly in charge when the shit hits the fan and bush rides roughshod over them?)

When will you awake and contemplate the true nature of the beast you have spawned?

America, your political leadership, as jubilant over nothing as it may be, has, in effect, abandoned you.

The fate of the world is in your hands. You, the lonely individual, or the pack of buddies animated by a true love of the principles enshrined in your US Constitution, or whole neighborhoods, or angry mobs... Do something! ANYTHING ! NOW !

Very soon it will be too late and, if you're still alive, you will be asked, why did you sit idle when you knew what was coming? What will you answer? How will you ever be able to look at yourself in the mirror ever again?

Peak oil is a reality. You can't do anything about supply. But you can reduce demand. That means you. To kill you. You kill half of the world and the peak oil deadline is pushed back another 20 years. Do you really put it past these people to kill half of the world without even flinching?

Very soon... an awful event (another false flag black op) will occur, and everything will accelerate totally out of control... Just like a tsunami. By then it will be too late. It's already started, just ripples so far in Somalia, but indicative of the waves to come.

For God's sake and in the name of the great men who were who you call your founding fathers, please do something. Do it now!

Iraq "surge"

Our 'Dear Leader" is nothing but a grown-up version of a sadistic child. You know the kind, the playground bully, the one who gets a charge out of torturing small creatures, and the one with an arrogant smirk on his face and an expert in derisive words and gestures toward any and all critics. He's an amiable back-patter on one hand,if he thinks you have something he wants-and a vicious back-stabber if he thinks you crossed him. To think that such an odious cretin is our president is almost too much to bear.

Dr. Kevorkian = Selfless Hero; Bush = Selfish Thug

The "War on Terror", Tax cuts, really, whatever initiative or policy you can think of that comes out of this administration has one thing in common: Enriching the families, friends and supporters of the administration.

Bush sees himself as a corporate front man that was hired to do a job he is well suited for, what with his cheerleading background and his enviable connections, both here and abroad.

I'd love to know how The Bush Family, with their fortunes tied to the likes of the Carlisle Group, oil and investment holdings has fared over the last six years. For Cheney - double ditto!

The Reason for Escalation is OIL

Bush is no more of a killer than Saddam, or your Texas executioner; he's not Doctor Death. He doesn't purposely want to kill people! Oh, no!

He wants what he wants: control of Iraq's rather large pile of oil (maybe the 3rd, maybe the 1st in reserves in the world). The oil law, now wending its way through Iraq's parliament would ensure that American oil companies would get huge profits--better terms than they could get anywhere--unless the US had 140,000 troops stationed in another country as well.

So, not only does Bush propose escalation, but he intends for the US to stay in Iraq until those production sharing agreements with the oil companies expire--in thirty years!

Bush=the good doctor?

BDomenico

The comparison is odious. The good doctor strove to end needless suffering. The bad president strives to increase it!

I agree that Bush is a psycho killer, but...

he cannot be compared to Dr. Kervorkian.

Dr. Kervorkian sought to help those who were suffering terribly to end their pain; Bush is murdering young, healthy people in the prime of their lives. Big difference.

Dr. Kervorkian (though perhaps misguided) wanted to help others - Bush and the rest of his cabal only want to help themselves.

I agree with the other commenter who stated that Hitler is a better comparison.

Misguided?

What has "misguided" to do with helping others? Dr. Kervorkian had guts and he put his actions with his guts.
Who are you to tell him that he was misguided?
If you make a comment, mean it. Don't weaken it with BS.

In vino veritas.

Excuse be but...

If I recall correctly, Dr. Kevorkian was jailed for assisting terminally ill patients with their desire for euthanasia. Comparing him to Bloody George the psychopath is well, just wrong. Somehow I don't think that any of the +3000 brave American troops that have paid the ultimate price during the invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq actually had any desire to pay a price of such magnitude.

By the way, what's all this I hear about the recent threats from Israel to use "strategic nuclear weapons" against Iran? I haven't seen any articles on Buzzflash about this, did I miss something? Be this sabre rattling or an actual plan, Americans who desire peace need to stand up and say NO to a preemptive nuclear strike by any country against another for any reason.

Peace...

Good editorial, but...

This editorial is well written with good content. However, I object to the comparison to Dr. Kevorkian - I don't consider him a murderer at all! This comparison brings in other issues that are irrelevant to this editorial, and it's essential we all stay united in our objections to this administration.

I think Hitler (another fascist) would be a better comparison.

Or maybe Nero fiddling while the daughters party across Argentina.

Another Concerned Citizen

we can oppose the "surge" with our own surge at home.

Move On, True Majority, Code Pink and a coalition of other groups are calling for Americans to hit the streets on Thursday in response to Bush's call for escalation. Go to the action page for more details. I know in Boston we'll be at Park Street from 4-6 (there's a recruiting office near there).

Great editorial, btw

I especially liked the analogy to Nixon. Don't let them rewrite history!
