It’s been like the ten plagues that God inflicted on the Egyptians until they would let Moses lead the Jews to the "Promised Land."
Except, it’s been a lot more than ten.
We’ll name a few for starters: Greed, Hidden Lust, Profiteering off of Death, Arrogance, Lying, Deception, Selfishness, Spite, Vengeance, Bearing False Witness, Demagoguery, Preying Upon Fear, Betrayal, Trickery, Gross Incompetence….
Oh, it’s a lot more than ten.
We’ve been counting them, like BuzzFlash readers, in dismay for six years as they have been inflicted upon America.
We don’t know how Election Day 2006 will end. We can only, as we have the last three election cycles, hope and work for the best.
And that is what we have perhaps missed for so many years, we have almost forgotten how it feels: hope.
That is in large part what the Bush Junta has had in mind: to numb America with such an overload of fear and deception, that the people of our nation abandon all hope of becoming the dream that we once held out to the world.
There was a time when we thought we could do anything as a nation – and we could improve the world along with our accomplishments and dreams.
It wasn’t that we were smarter than everyone else; we were just freer of the shackles of the past, more creative, unfettered by the chains of history. We glorified in the newest inventions, the latest scientific developments. We opened our borders to the power and synergy that comes from diversity.
We were a nation that pulled itself up by its own bootstraps. We were a beacon of freedom of liberty.
And then, in 2000, we got hijacked – and the dreams became nightmares and plagues visited upon us.
God had no role in this.
People, who falsely invoked God’s name, were behind the hijacking of our nation.
They thought themselves masters of the universe, and thought that the masses of American voters were sheep to be led by the "all knowing ones."
Except, the "all knowing ones" were -- and are -- frauds who have nothing but failure on their resume.
It is hard to hold onto hope when it is beaten down every day by a barrage of propaganda and deceit – and an endless war that continues only because three men can’t admit a mistake.
But hope is what we must have as our Northern Star – hope and our Constitution.
Let them continue to guide us through the darkest of storms.
Some day it will be spring in America.
Plant the crocuses this morning.
In time, they will bloom, once again.
