If you don't think Huckabee was playing the race card, consider this: The Secret Service detailed to protect Senator Obama is in trouble. Sort of. Someone's been joking around with a noose in the agency's locker room.

Now maybe Mike Huckabee was just joshin' around but the good 'ol boys at that NRA rally knew what he was a-gettin' at, and apparently they didn't think he was all that funny. And maybe the Secret Service "got it" or perhaps they just didn't want to. Disturbing reports out of Texas that the Secret Service pulled the gun scans from Obama's biggest rally in that state was pretty "funny" too. But funny as in fishy, not jokey joke funny like Huckabee's holy-man act.

Right-wing blogs and e-mails are suddenly all ablaze with half-truths and lies about Michelle Obama. One interesting rumor is that she's disingenuous for having claimed to have been brought up in a one-room tenement when she wasn't. The fact is that she's never claimed it, either. The closest claim she's ever made was that she's from a working-class neighborhood.

The same cadre is simultaneously trying to portray the couple as "elitists," as Senator John McCain flies around the country in the family jet and his wealthy wife refuses to make public her tax returns.
