American oil companies own little of the oil in the ground in Persian Gulf, but the PSA's they are forcing on Iraqis with Bush's Hydrocarbon Law will give 88% of the oil income to big oil companies, a deal no major oil producing country would take without risking their government being tarred and feathered (except the US where it doesn't even occur to us that we should get anything).
