It is now very possible that we wake up on Wednesday morning with the Republicans keeping control of Congress and Karl Rove proclaimed the reigning genius of American politics.

It does not have to be, but it could happen, and polling shows the national generic gap narrowing and Democrats losing ground in key states such as Tennessee, Montana and even Maryland.

The reason: while Republicans have superior get out the vote and use every attack point to rally their right wing base, the polls show that Democrats do much better among all voters, and lose ground among likely voters.

If those who stand with us, vote, we win.

If too many of those who stand with us, stay home, we pick up seats but lose the fight for control of Congress.

And if the one party state wins, Republicans will conclude that no matter how bad things are, they can keep control, and George Bush will conclude that he can do anything, anytime without limits.

It is time to man the barricades.

It is time to pull out all the stops.

It is time to spend the closing hours of the campaign fighting as though America depends on it, because it does.

It is time to go all-out, to charge to the finish line with our workers, our values, and our fighting spirit, to get out our votes.

This election will probably be close and razor thin in the states and districts that determine whether Democrats can win control of the House or Senate, or whether Washington will remain a one party state with a Republican President, Republican Senate and Republican House.

In a close election, any single person can make the difference and the change the course of history. In 2000, a few dozen people in Florida could have done it. Today, any person who reads these words and takes this to the limit election day, gets out that one extra voter, does that one extra day of volunteer work, can change history on Tuesday..

To those who are even tempted to vote for the Green Party or other third party candidates, by doing so, you are voting for George Bush, Dick Cheney, and the unlimited continuation of the Iraq and abusive policies without checks and balances. This time, vote Democratic.

It is time for our side to rally in the closing hours.

Every person can contact a local candidate or the local party and volunteer to work the closing hours of the campaign.

Every person can make phone calls or knock on doors or help police the polls.

Every person can find the web site for a candidate in a faraway state, if your local race is not competitive. Many campaigns have ways you can make phone calls to their voters and their web site will tell you how.

It may well be, that depending on how a small percent of voters vote, in one direction lies a major Democratic victory, and a restoration of two party government and checks and balances in Washington. In the other direction lies disaster, with Republicans maining control of both the House and Senate.

At this moment there are almost ten seats in the Senate and fifty seats in the House that are close enough, to be turned either way.

At this moment any person who calls the campaign office of your candidate, gives that extra day of support, gets out that extra vote, and works to protect the polls from fraud for that extra hour can change the course of democracy in America.

The stakes are enormous, the battle is joined, the cause is clear, the time is now, and together we must make our stand.
