Look Upon My Works, Ye Mighty, and Despair

If there are history books in the future - if there is anyone left to write them, and any infrastructure left to print them - they will begin with Mitt Romney at the 2012 convention saying,"President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans." He paused, with a George W. Bushian smirk on his face, before continuing with, "and to heal the planet."

The groans, shouts, and yowls of contempt were palpable in the hall. Mr Romney had scored a direct hit, rolling his eyes at climate change even as the most berzerk summer on record was melting the polar ice caps, melting Greenland completely and battering most of America with a drought the likes of which have not been seen since the Dust Bowl.

"My promise," said The Candidate in conclusion, "is to help you and your family."

So much for the global crisis staring us in the face.

Thanks, Mitt. You remind me of an old poem. How does it go?

"My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
