Ted Cruz: Born-Again Jefferson Davis

Ted Cruz' tour de siège in his attempt to close down our government and default on the debt ceiling endeared himself to his Teapartheid supporters whose principle goals are to bring down Barack Obama at any cost and eviscerate democracy and the social safety nets.

The latter goal of course is consistent with the Canadian-born subversive and saboteur whose father supported the Communist dictator Fidel Castro who overthrew the democratically-elected Cuban government. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

As we witness almost daily he and his racist hordes are not such a rare breed when you look at the Old Confederacy revivalists. Now that Republicans have overwhelming control of states like North Carolina and Texas the personal attacks against the president and racist comments coming from their party's elected politicians have been amplified.

North Carolina state Rep. Larry Pittman (R) speaking before his Deliverance clan in Concord, North Carolina stated, "Someone had posted something [on Facebook] with a picture of Barack Obama and across it said 'traitor,' " Pittman said. "And, you know, I don't always agree with the guy, I certainly didn't vote for him but I gotta defend him on this one. I just don't think it's right at all to call Barack Obama a traitor. There's a lot of things he's done wrong but he is not a traitor. Not as far as I can tell. I haven't come across any evidence yet that he has done one thing to harm Kenya."

Emboldened by the renaissance of racism Ted Cruz heaped encomiums on one of his grand heroes, Jesse Helms. At one of his Pied Pier love-fests Ted Cruz openly exclaimed that, 'We need 100 More like Jesse Helms' in the Senate.

Imagine, all 100 U.S. senators just like Jesse Helms!

Former Senate majority leader Trent Lott lauded Strom Thurmond who ran for president in 1948 as the States' Rights (aka Dixiecrats) candidate stating, "We voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over the years, either." After the Civil Rights Act was passed and signed by President Lyndon Johnson in 1964 Strom Thurmond, an inveterate segregationist, switched parties and became a Republican where racism now has a permanent home.

The 21st Century Republican Party made it clear that their priorities don't include a government that serves the welfare and security of our society. During the 8 years of Bush-Cheney policies, aided and abetted by a rubber stamp Republican-controlled congress, their leitmotif was Spend! Spend! Spend! The spending included wars that cost north of $3 trillion, a $1.35 trillion tax cut giveaway for the wealthiest 1% and huge subsidies for Big Oil, Big Coal, the Big Pharmaceutical industry, the bailout of big financial institutions and of course the perpetual sacred cow, the military industrial complex.

Republicans are screeching for austerity now that they have blown all the past surpluses on foolhardy war ventures created by a climate of corporate greed and malfeasance, the damage of which led to the recession that began in 2007 and may be irreparable.

But, while they put two wars on the credit card, both unpaid for, unfunded and kept totally off-budget, they now demand that no new revenue can be raised unless it is taken out of the hides of millions of struggling Americans, young and old, whose jobs, pensions and health benefits have been lost as a result of 8 years of Republican reckless profligacy based on their distorted view of American Exceptionalism and bellicose Manifest Destiny.

Republicans tried to sell their snake oil that shutting down the government and reneging on our debts was an act of supreme courage. On Fox News Ann Coulter distilled the Republican-Teapartheid glee and euphoria over the government shutdown, telling Sean Hannity: "This is why I think the shutdown was so magnificent, run beautifully, I'm so proud of these Republicans, and that is because they have branded the Republican Party as the anti-Obamacare party."

I cannot remember a period in my lifetime that a president has been so viciously assailed and disrespected by politicians of the same ilk as Joseph McCarthy and Jesse Helms. Only now they have become the norm and the majority in the Republican Party, more racist and astonishingly hyper-obsessive over taking down the man whom they perceive occupies THEIR White House.

If the born-again Jefferson Davis Ted Cruz is perceived by the Republicans as their Messiah who they want to represent their agenda in 2016 then they have devolved far deeper into the miasma than the one they emerged from in 2008 when U.S. Senator John McCain incredulously yanked the knowledge-deficient, acid-throwing Alaska half-governor Sarah Palin out of her dog sled to become his second banana.

For Ted Cruz and his cult colony of Teapartheid idolaters every kiss begins with KKK. The South has indeed risen again!
