Vaughn Ward

Welcome back to GOP Hypocrite of the Week.

You may think it unfair or counterproductive to award GOP Hypocrite of the Week to a candidate who just lost his bid for the GOP nomination to the U.S. House. However, as a Sarah Palin tea-cruit and GOP favorite, we're pretty sure that Vaughn Ward isn't going away anytime soon. And we certainly wouldn't want his come-back to occur without this entertaining gem.

Yes, in case you hadn't seen it, embedded in this award is the video mash-up of Vaughn stealing a speech nearly word-for-word from then-Senator, now bane-of-the-tea-party's-existence, Barack Obama.

Now, this apparently isn't the first time Ward has been accused of plagiarizing in this campaign. But as Gawker asked, "if you're a Palin-endorsed Republican, is there anyone worse to plagiarize than President Obama? From his famous 2004 speech to the Democratic National Convention, the one that all but launched his career?"

Hmm. Maybe Karl Marx or Keith Olbermann..?

Ward has railed against President Obama and his policies. But it turns out that all that hope-y change-y stuff kinda worked out for him and all, so why not try and steal it? We wouldn't expect anything less from the latest Republican to be labeled a part of the Grand Old Hypocrites Party.

Of course, this isn't the only massive hypocrisy to mar Ward's campaign. From Washington state's Spokesman-Review:

Republican Vaughn Ward has made cutting federal spending a hallmark of his campaign for Congress. But one of the top recipients of federal bailout money puts food on the table in Ward’s household. His wife, Kirsten, 35, is a technology project manager for Washington, D.C.-based Fannie Mae. Ward, 41, has been campaigning since March 2009, while his wife supports him and their two children, Ave and William. “We’re set up financially where I don’t have to work for money,” Ward told the Idaho Statesman last year. “Instead, I can work on a campaign.”

Must be nice.

No wonder Ward was named part of the GOP's "Young Guns" crowd of exciting new recruits. And it makes total sense that Palin backed this train-wreck of a candidate. Not only is he willfully ignorant, but he's an admitted hypocrite! He should fit in nicely with the mounting 2010 crop of Republican losers. And that's why Vaughn Ward is our GOP Hypocrite of the Week.

Remember our motto: So many Republican hypocrites, so little time.

Catch up with you soon.

This is Vaughn Ward's first GOP Hypocrite of the Week Award, though we suspect it won't be his last. You can see a list of all previous nominees here.
