As a college student in the 1970s, I avoided history classes after receiving a mediocre grade in the first one that I did take. Studying Texas history in the Houston public schools for a mandatory three years just hadn't prepared me for Western Civilization 1-2. In retrospect, I wish I had stuck with history.

Water under the bridge. We all make dumb choices when we're 18.

Rainlillie: Nancy! Set the Table!

by Rainlillie

Nancy, set the table! The American people are hungry, so put a large bowl of truth and a side dish of integrity on the table. I'd also like to see a huge serving of subpoenas for those who have failed to turn over important documents and are impeding investigations.

Let's not forget to add a side dish of courage, it seems the Democrats aren't getting enough of this dish, they're suffering from a major deficiency, which is why they appear so weak.

Cindy Sheehan: Never Again

by Cindy Sheehan

The greatest purveyor of violence in the world today:
My own country, I cannot be silent.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today is the day that our nation "celebrates" Veteran's Day. For most people it is a day to sleep in and catch up on shopping, chores, and other errands. For me and too many others, it is just another especially hard day in an endless litany of hard days since Casey was killed in Sadr City on April 4, 2004.

One day a year to honor our veterans is a noble gesture, and I'm sure veterans of all wars appreciate the tribute. But when one of every four homeless persons is a war veteran, it's time to overhaul the system that offers such tragically inefficient service to our soldiers and give them more than a patriotic song and march.

Democrats and Republicans can't seem to get on the same page with any issues, but on taking care of our veterans, they need to unite and take real action.

When the guys over at TIME start questioning the "neocons," you have to wonder what is the real underlying Rovian strategy here. If the intent is to show America the obvious, and what the rest of the world already knows, then it would be that Bush and the neocons have truly opened up a disaster that only spells catastrophe for us all!

BuzzFlash Editor's Blog

Mark Karlin, Editor and Publisher, BuzzFlash.com

After 7 1/2 years, the BuzzFlash Editor and Publisher is starting a blog, which will appear from time to time. Technically, it will really be a series of postings on our original content site -- BuzzFlash.org -- but we'll see how it goes. Who knows, maybe we'll spin it off into a regular blog.

Read it for awhile, I'll be as surprised as you about the direction it takes.

From 1994-1997, I drew daily cartoons for Laugh Lines, the L.A. Times' humor page. I also wrote topical jokes every day. Since the WGA is now on strike, there will be no new shows from the likes of Jay Leno, David Letterman, Conan O' Brien, Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert. Since they've cornered the late-night market, I've decided to stake out a different time of day to call my own.
