Over the last three weeks, for different reasons, I've had inside access to two kinds of events that usually take place privately, behind closed doors.

In the first instance, I was invited -- as a non-paying observer -- to small political fundraisers for two major Congressional candidates, one for the Senate, one for the House. The other invitees were quite well to do, possessed of very deep pockets. As opposed to me, whose pockets only jingle shallowly with quarters for the laundromat.

"I'm not the least bit sorry
For the way in which I acted
I hated the book but LOVED
The pages that were redacted."

Jason "Big Sexy" Whitlock has told me to "mind my own damn business" when it comes to his mission to lead a new Civil Rights movement against "black idiots." But whether you are talking about Whitlock or someone hanging a noose on a tree, there is a problem when you say, "Just ignore it and it will go away."

Subject: Rep. Fortney "Pete" Stark

The House of Representatives is holding morning business. John "George Crybaby Hamilton" Boehner has introduced a "privileged resolution" calling for the censure of Rep. Fortney "Pete" Stark for his comments of last week regarding not funding the SCHIP legislation and for the continued profligate war-spending requests that we also don't have the money to pay for.

Today Chairman Waxman wrote to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice reiterating his request for information about the "CivPol" program. The State Department has been faulted for inadequate management of the billion-dollar contract with DynCorp International to train the Iraqi police forces, but has not complied with the Committee's oversight efforts.

Text of the letter follows:

Dear Madam Secretary:

President Bush is no chump. He has figured out how to emasculate the Democrats (those that aren't already eunuchs). Instead of making a decent estimate of the cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and asking for it up front for the 2008 fiscal year, he is asking for it piecemeal, giving Democrats opportunity after opportunity to turn him down and end it all, knowing all the while that they'll cave and give him his war money.

Each time he does this, and each time House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's minions deliver, the Democrats sink in public esteem, to the point that they're now approaching single-digit approval ratings.

McCain says Bin Laden message a sign of success?

Republican presidential candidate John McCain says that the latest Osama bin Laden message is "a clear sign that we are succeeding in Iraq." I think the fact that Osama is still making videos is a clear sign that we are focusing on the wrong enemy. (Hint to Republicans - Osama isn't in Iraq.) I would say the fact that Bush is asking for another 46 billion dollars to fund the occupation is a clear sign that we are NOT succeeding in Iraq.

19,000 Americans died in hospitals and nursing homes in 2005. They were victims of a scary "superbug" -- a bacterial staph infection for which there is now no known cure. Experts warn that we are facing a "medical typhoon" unless we act to contain this menace of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA.

Hmm, thanks to Chris Dodd we’re finding out it only takes one Senator with some guts, not 67 Dewey Decimal Rules and Regulations cowards, to stop Bush, Cheney, and the Repuglicans in their tracks! SenatorChris Dodd on Thursday single-handedly blocked a bill to legalize unconstitutional spying and immunize criminals who have engaged in it.”
