It's been 3 years since I arrived back home after having worked for a U.S. humanitarian agency in the southern Iraqi city of Basra. It's as if I never left. Physically I'm here, but mentally my thoughts and heart are still with the Iraqi people whom befriended me and my Iraqi staff who literally put my well-being and safety before their own. They never once thought of their own fate or risks for their own well-being, only mine.
