Rep. Bob Allen, that kind of explanation
Will make anyone who hears it squirm
Which is why it's time to go out and hire
A brand new crisis management firm.

[BuzzFlash Note: Warning: Lots of pessimism and anger expressed herein. The Senate vote enabling further domestic spying and expanding executive powers has not been well-received, shall we say?]
What was Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) thinking when he told Senate colleagues it was a "sad day" when that body started taking its marching orders from an outsider (the president and the director of national security), in passing a new version of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) that gives the president a free hand to spy on communications of Americans without a judicial review?
Is he implying that this is the first time the Senate has done this?

If only tragedies in America would trigger greater compassion for the anguish of those in other nations. If only American pain would bring a deeper understanding of the pain felt by others in the world.
Sometimes it does.

A long way from "straight-talk," this is he who speaks from both sides of his mouth, John McCain, it's his version of political spin double talk! He's got his political flak jacket on, wading through a campaign quagmire, in an attempt to make us believe the troops will be coming home. "What Petraeus is going to say is not that we can start to withdraw," Mr. McCain said. "We're seeing progress," he said, and the Iraqi army is getting better. That means: "We're going to be able, in months ahead, to move into bases." And then, "when the situation warrants it," we'll be able to take the next step of withdrawing." Petraeus is George Bush's hand-picked lap dog general, and McCain knows it! Petraeus will be saying whatever Bush wants him to say come September, don't look for the truth, don't look for our troops on the horizon, it's not part of the Bush/Cheney PNAC plan! Bill Moyers, a man who can be trusted for straight talk: "When September comes, you can count on more appeals for delay or excuses. That's the formula for perpetual war ..."
That's like a defensive husband who tells his wife,
"I did sleep with a hooker I met in this bar
But we had sex in a hotel room a few blocks away;
We didn't do it in the backseat of my car!"

Minneapolis-Saint Paul is the last place on earth I would have expected a "structurally deficient bridge" to collapse, but it happened. As sure as the levees broke in New Orleans, the bridge is no more. Now the state of Minnesota is living a nightmare where people I speak with are alternately devastated and furious: two parts tears, one part rage, with the ratio shifting by the hour.
