Subject: Mr. Bush, how many Iraqis have been sacrificed?

I agree with Dick Cheney that the Iraqis are sacrificing more kids than we are, so why don't you tell us how many Iraqis you have sacrificed for your oil?.

Dick has a lot of nerve saying Edwards and Kerry are demeaning the Iraqi sacrifice when you don't tell Americans how many Iraqis you have killed. Tell us how many Iraqis you have killed.

If you know how many Iraqis have died then tell the American people what they have sacrificed. If you know how many Iraqis have been injured then tell us.

Subject: Cheney/Edwards Debate

Dear Sir or Madam:

I watched the Vice Presidential debate on Tuesday, and I must say that I was very dismayed at how easily Vice President Cheney lied without any compunction. The Vice President told lies about important issues, such as whether he ever suggested a connection between Iraq and 9/11. Further, the Vice President even lied about more trivial issues, including how often he presided over the Senate and whether he had ever met Senator Edwards before last night. The lies about important issues are refuted by the record. Even the latter, more trivial lies have been refuted. Despite the Vice President's claim that "most Tuesdays" he presided over the Senate, official records show that he presided over the Senate only twice since he became Vice President. In addition, despite claiming to having met Senator Edwards for the first time last night, the Vice President met Senator Edwards many times, including on "Meet the Press," at Elizabeth Dole's "swearing in" ceremony, and at the National Prayer Breakfast where they sat next to each other. My only hope is that the press pays close attention to the remaining two debates between President Bush and Senator Kerry to ensure that President Bush doesn't resort to lies and distortions in an attempt to win the debates. The press owes that to the American voters.

Sincerely,

Michael McBride

Subject: Re Dissecting Cheney (salon.com)

[Author] James K. Galbraith is Salon's economics correspondent. He teaches at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. This is an excellent two page article of a Vice President committed to a world view that would scare the hell out of most Americans, if you could convince them that the VP really believes it.

Oct. 5, 2004

History's final verdict on George W. Bush may well be to dismiss him as a front man who was not quite up to his job. But nothing like that will be said of Dick Cheney. Cheney is undeniably intelligent, powerful and shrewd -- a force to be reckoned with, even though he has operated mainly in the shadows.

The key to understanding Cheney is that he is a throwback -- to a brand of strategic thinking that bedeviled the Cold War. He is part of the legacy that runs back to Generals Curtis LeMay and Thomas Power of the Strategic Air Command in the late 1950s. The two tenets of this legacy are absolutely consistent: 1) Overestimate the enemy and govern through fear, and 2) hit the enemy before it can hit you. In four words: "missile gap" and "first strike."

Subject: Tuesdays Without Cheney

Dick Cheney told an uncomfortably large number of lies during his debate with John Edwards last night. Perhaps the easiest of all of them to check was this: "Now, in my capacity as Vice President, I am the President of Senate, the presiding officer. I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session."

Really? "They" do keep records on this kind of thing, you know. Anyone can go over to http://www.access.gpo.gov/congress and see what the actual records are. I did. And the record is this: In all of 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004, Dick Cheney showed up in the Senate as President for a GRAND TOTAL OF TWO Tuesdays. TWICE IN FOUR YEARS! -- But in all of 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004, John Edwards also served as pro-tem President of the Senate twice!

Hence, the Government's own records shows that (a) Cheney was only in attendance ONE PERCENT of the time, and (b) John Edwards spent as much time in the role of (rotating) President of the Senate as Cheney did.

This kind of thing comes out of Cheney's mouth so smoothly, so assuredly, so convincingly, so easily, so practiced. It is simply pathological.

One fundamental principle must be borne in mind constantly ... propaganda must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over. -- Josef Goebbels

Subject: debate polls

Dear Buzz,

I am so glad I found your link to the story about CNN and FOX taking down their polls off the websites when they saw that John Edwards was winning by a wide margin. I THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY!!

I voted on each site right after the debate, and when I went back later to see how the totals were doing, the FOX poll was "frozen" -- no changes since I had first voted, and later I couldn't find it at all.

When I went back to the CNN site for an update on results, it had been replaced by the new question about whether the debate had helped you decide who to vote for (or something equally stupid). I remarked to my husband that they had pulled the poll on who won the debate, and he was stunned to find that I was correct.

What has our country come to when the media is so corrupt that it won't even tell the truth about what "we the people" are saying? I am sick to my stomach over this, and frankly very scared for our country. How can we get out the word? Those in the media won't discuss it, and we who try to talk about it are labeled as paranoid!

God help us all -- we MUST rid the country of these dictators who intimidate our formerly free press.

Subject: Bush Campaign operative

After dinner tonight, I got a call from my next door neighbor, mother of an eleven-year-old impressionable boy. He was provided a ride from school (after-hours activities) by a neighbor that is an independent businessman in our community. This man is also working for the Bush Campaign, in this small grassroots backward county in north-central Ohio.

This local businessman (who regularly provides recreation and entertainment for several local kids) stated that,"If Kerry is elected, Jesus will return very soon. It will be the End-of-the World!"

This single mother wanted to ask me how to calm her son, as this really scared him, thinking that God must favor Bush, and Kerry is the Devil. All I could tell her to relay to her son is that this local guy is obviously a partisan religio-nut case that misunderstands his religion as well as his support of the Bush-Cheney Nazi organization.

However, this IS indicative of the depth to which the DEPRAVED Republican Party operatives will sink in attempting to keep "their boy" in office. Look for much more of this type of tactic all over America, as it is the uninitiated, blind followers of religion that are the sheep to be led to the polls on election day!

Subject: It isn't safe to ride the "el" anymore

Dear Buzz,

This evening on my way home from work, I had an "interesting " exchange with another commuter. It began when he asked me about the debates. I responded that I understood that Kerry "kicked some serious butt" last week. The man said that it [didn't matter] whether Bush could debate, "because presidents don't debate unless they're running for office." I responded "True, but my president has to be able to think on his feet. He has to be able to answer questions, and be able to reason with others." The rider said that was "silly " (perhaps implying that I am a "silly woman"?). That "the president doesn't have to answer to anyone." (Hmmmm...whatever happened to servant of the people?) He then said that he wouldn't vote for Kerry because, "Kerry supported the holocaust" . . . "Kerry supports legalized abortion so he supports the holocaust." I then said, "I support freedom of choice, too." To which he replied, "Then you support the holocaust." I said "No, I don't. But I do support Kerry, and you've been drinking too much of that rightwing Kool-Aid. It's destroying your brain."

We need to help these people, put them out of their misery and elect Kerry so that they can come to their senses, and realize just how BushCo has destroyed the fabric of this county.

Subject: Is "intention" basis for invasion & war?? Throw their words into their faces

There is SOOO much material, video, audio and interviews in which the Bushies insisted that they would be proven right about the wmd's, especially AFTER the "win" when the US inspectors went in..... how long ago was that??? How many deaths ago? Not only American but also Iraqi - civilian....When did the Bushies KNOW that these WMD's would NOT be found (one has to assume that they've been receiving some interim reports) and what did they do about that??

And what happened to the great Saddam trial show?? poof.... and not a word about it.... they got rid of their great judge Chalabi because he was supposedly in corrupt cahoots with his uncle (did they charge him with anything, put him on trial? I seem to have missed that), but maybe they also realized that Saddam was not going to be convicted by Iraqis.... didn't I just read somewhere that if they had a choice, they would elect him president???

Now is the time to get Bush out, not let him spin this into some kind of "security" thing, which is all they have left....

Thousands, thousands of wounded (maimed, physically and psychologically) Americans, over a thousand dead, many thousands of dead Iraqis, more wounded and maimed, whatever infrastructure was there after 10 years of sanctions destroyed, STILL no regular electricity, water, and other basics (read the bloggers, they're the only ones who don't live in the insulated American "green zone," out of which even reporters don't come out any more; they only know what they're told...)

One other thing that I wonder about - we see super journalist Christiane Amanpour in reporting from Iraq, Afghanistan - NOBODY is going to make me believe that she doesn't get flown in (IF she really is even there, remember wag the dog?) for a couple of hours, does her report, gets the hell out and goes home to her child..... what a crock!!!

Hey Buzz,

Keep the pressure on the GOP in Michigan. They pushed for the confusing design of this ballot, so that they could literally steal votes from Kerry voters for Bush. Now they want Michael Moore arrested for encouraging young people to vote. I hope you put the story front and center on this Michigan ballot and keep it there until they do something. Otherwise Bush will win Michigan through this theft. Good work. Please keep the pressure on.

Was it just me or did more of you people notice the Gotcha smirk on Bush's simian face, when Kerry said that Bush's Regime forgot about Osama Bin Laden. Thanks to the Newsies finally showing some small modicum of spine, we got a chance to see the Resident's facial expressions during his drubbing by Kerry. You can show George W. or Dick anything to prove a point...in black and white or living color......they say they didn't say any such thing...show him the film or the proof where he did...and they will lie about it...even right in front of their eyes.

Subject: Scumbag Rove: Lying for the Fuhrer

Rove, Fake Documents and How The Left Is Often Played By Rightwing Operatives (indybay.org)

Here is the story behind the story. Rove wants to keep this alive. It is a distraction from Iraq. In fact, the prevailing conspiracy theories are as follows. (a) Rove had Karen Hughes and Scott McClellan plant the forged documents when they were scrubbing the TANG files when Bush is governor, so that if copies ever turned up they could call the originals from the files - or copies of them - forgeries and thus discredit any document that purported the truth... the truth being that Bush disobeyed an order. (b) Rove found out that 60 minutes was doing the story and had a mole fax the forged documents from a Kinkos near Burkitt's house, thus linking Burkitt with the tainted documents.

The next part of this campaign is to try to link it to Kerry campaign. The Cleland story, combined with the Burkitt story and Bush's comments on the documents is the first salvo.

Keep an eye out for another Rove-orchestrated attack! (dailykos.com)

DeLay gets a slap on the wrist for repeated abuse of power. The actions of the House Ethics Committee is in itself a blatant abuse of power. SOS

I am no fan of Imus, however, he is supporting Kerry and stated that everything Cheney said in the debate were lies.

House Panel Rebukes Delay for Second Time in Six Days (Salt Lake Tribune)

By SUZANNE GAMBOA, AP

WASHINGTON (Oct. 7) -- The House ethics committee rebuked Majority Leader Tom DeLay for the second time in a week for questionable conduct, sternly warning the Texas Republican to temper his behavior.

The committee late Wednesday admonished DeLay for creating an appearance of giving donors special access on pending energy legislation and using the Federal Aviation Administration to intervene in a Texas political dispute.

Last week, the same committee admonished DeLay for offering to endorse the House candidacy of a House member's son in exchange for the member's favorable vote on a Medicare prescription drug bill.

The committee's publicly issued findings constituted the panel's mildest punishment, and spared DeLay from a lengthy investigation.

But the committee noted the rare back-to-back admonishments and that in 1999 DeLay received an ethics committee warning for pressuring a lobby company to hire a Republican.

''In view of the number of instances to date in which the committee has found it necessary to comment on conduct in which you engaged, it is clearly necessary for you to temper your future actions,'' the committee said in a letter to DeLay.

Subject: Cheney lies--you can see it in his eyes

Dear Buzz,

After looking from side to side in his reptilian way, and lying through his gritted teeth just about every time he opened his mouth on Tuesday night, Cheney is now saying that the report finding no weapons of mass destruction, no stockpiles, and no nuclear program justifies the invasion of Iraq.

This "man" is betting that no one of any consequence will challenge him on THE BIG LIE tactic. And most likely they won't because he is a feared bully.

I read a few letters in the New York Times commenting on Cheney's "clear superiority" to Edwards in the debate. (To be fair, there were a few more letters favoring Edwards over Cheney, I believe.) Readers favoring Cheney commented on how "experienced" and "well-informed" he seemed to be, while Edwards seemed too lightweight. The huge irony here is that style indeed triumphed over substance because Cheney lied so unstintingly and these people fell for it.

Subject: Equal time

I didn't realize that there would be a [Round II] on the first presidential debate. I listened carefully and did not hear the moderator say anything of that nature. So why are some networks and cables giving Bush DEBATE REBUTTAL TIME A WEEK LATER? The first debate is OVER. If a candidate wants to change or refute opposition statements made during the debate, let them run expensive campaign ads to do that. Neither candidate should be permitted to get free air time to come back to the debate without both debaters being present.

It is time for an email flood to the offending cables and networks telling them that what they are doing is highly unethical. We need to demand equal time for Kerry. If they want to dedicate a half hour to Bush refuting Kerry's statements from the first debate, then they owe Kerry an equal half hour. If we don't complain, we will likely find ourselves with our thumbs in our mouths on November 3. CNN, MSNBC, FOX: a debate is between two individuals. A debate includes points and counterpoints. By allowing Bush to have unequal time, you have denied Kerry his counterpoints. Do we need to boycott your sponsors in order to encourage you to act responsibly?

Buzzers: Please get your complaint emails out asap.

Subject: This needs to be reported

Lost in the discussion of Dick Cheney's lie about not having met Senator Edwards before the debate is a rather more important lie: In the course of making his dismissive and rehearsed statement, Cheney asserted, "I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session." If you check the record, you will find that Mr. Cheney presided over precisely TWO Senate sessions in the nearly 4 years he has served as President of the Senate -- FIVE LESS THAN the number of times Mr. Edwards himself presided. Also, when Cheney does attend, he only meets with Republicans. This is a far cry from his statement of presiding most Tuesdays.

The tricky thing about lying when it concerns public record is that the public record is available to... the public. Anyone can go to the following web address and check this fact for himself:

http://www.gpoaccess.gov/crecord/index.html

It seems the Vice-President shares his President's affinity for living in a fantasy world of spin, where no one ever calls them on their outright lies because it seems indecorous to call a sitting President or Vice-President a liar. Fortunately, I -- a mere citizen -- have no compunctions whatsoever when it comes to that: The President and the Vice-President are liars.

Subject: If Dems Were as Mean as Republicans, We'd...

1. Get Rush Limbaugh behind bars where he belongs. Republicans always go after our strongest leaders, the stronger they are, the more they attack them. There is NO WAY we could have someone on our side, with as big an audience as Rush, get away with his drug offenses. They would hound his station, his advertisers, the media and the local officials where he committed the crime. Rush's attention should be on saving his own ass, not attacking John Kerry. Make sure the media knows that they are ignoring a story. Make sure his advertisers know that you are not happy. Why is Limbaugh "above the law"? He's a powerful enemy with an obvious weakness and should be put behind bars. We can do it, every one of us putting pressure on the prosecutors and the media. Rush is guilty and the guilty belong in Jail (HIS WORDS).

2. We'd attack Bush for being an alcoholic. Thru phone calls to talk radio, emails to the media and thru double entendre, we'd make the case again, and again, that during these times "we need a sober hand on the wheel." George Bush is one drink away from destroying our way of living.

3. Laura Bush killed her boyfriend, can you imagine if Teresa or Hillary did the same?

4. We'd have spies in every right wing church that is using tax free money to support Republican candidates and every preacher that preaches politics from the pulpit. The Devil is on Earth today and he is using our love of God as a cover to work his Evil. Just like he's doing in the Middle East. When you truly follow God, you are encouraged to do positive things, not negative. So we must remove the tax- exempt status from any "Church" that tries to guide its followers towards hate, ignorance and violence.

HERE'S THE TRUTH ABOUT THE DRAFT--

If China attacks Taiwan, If India and Pakistan start fighting again, If North Korea does something stupid, there WILL be a draft, make no mistake about it. We hardly have enough troops for Iraq. When Bush decides it's time to attack another country, or when he fumbles his way into getting us attacked again, THERE WILL BE A DRAFT.

Don't fool yourself. You have power on ONE DAY, Nov. 2nd, after that, if Bush gets in he will boldly drop the performance, he's putting on now, and BOLDY send our brave young men and women to help fight in his grand strategy for the middle east. His "grand strategy" has no real details or planning, but he thinks it's our job to create democracies, so he'll go country to country attempting to create democracy but instead creating more chaos and enemies...CAUSE HE'S A SPOILED KID WITH A NEW TOY, AND NOBODY IS GOING TO TELL HIM HOW TO PLAY WITH IT.

We need a National Intervention, George Bush has an addiction problem. He's addicted to power. I think we need to tell him we love him but we're not going to trust him until he gives up power. Power is ruining him, we cannot be enablers. He thinks about power first thing in the morning and just before he goes to sleep. He lies for power, steals for power and never admits his problem. He needs a 12-step program...12 weeks until he's out of the white house.

I pray America wakes up and makes John Kerry our next President. Hell, he's already on Mt. Rushmore, and a ham sandwich would be a better leader than Dubya.

Subject: Bush is MIA!

Bush Spent about 42 Percent of His Presidency On Vacation. According to an April 2004 CBS News report, Bush has spent 233 days at his Texas ranch since being inaugurated, including his 78 days at Camp David and five days in Kennebunkport, Maine. Since April, Bush has spent an additional 33 days at either Camp David or his Crawford ranch. In total, Bush has spent 42.4 percent, or all or part of 535 days, of his time in the White House at a vacation spot. [Washington Post, 4/9/04]

Subject: Mistake My Ass

Former chief U.N. weapons inspector Hans Blix, adding weight to Kerry's argument, said yesterday: "Had we had a few months more, we would have been able to tell both the CIA and others that there were no weapons of mass destruction [at] all the sites that they had given to us."

Kerry campaign officials jumped on the report, saying it is one more piece of evidence that the war in Iraq was a mistake and was based on evidence that was either faulty or exaggerated by administration officials....

War's rationale undermined once again: Weapons report gives Kerry forces more ammunition (MSNBC)

It is ever more clear to me now, and the rest of thinking America, that there really is no irony in this story. What really happened was the cabal of psycho-neo-cons that have hijacked our government were beginning to become afraid they would lose their war. As evidence trickled in from inspectors and other sources (that would have to be quashed) that Iraq harbored no terrorists, had no weapons of mass destruction, was indeed no "imminent threat"... the Neos panicked and sent our troops in there BEFORE inspectors could put a stop to the madness. The iron was hot and they had to strike now.

Mistake, my ass. This was clearly their intent and I wish people would stop characterizing it as a "mistake." The real "mistake" began in Texas in 1996 when Ann Richards underestimated "shrub" & Co. The rest is history.
