The BuzzFlash Mailbag The opinions expressed in the Mailbag are not necessarily those of BuzzFlash. Read the BuzzFlash FAQ for info on submitting to the Mailbag. Subject: Question for Barbara's Daily Buzz Is Mr. Sembler's first name Dis? Keep up your wonderful "Buzzes". They make my day! Gail [BuzzFlash Note: Good guess! But his other name is "Mel": St. Petersburg Republican Takes Charge Of 'Scooter' Libby's Legal Defense Fund.] Subject: Dem Support of Bush-Cheney (CNN Reports Dems Deeply Divided on Corrupt Illegal Iraqi War) I've said it a dozen times. Bush-Cheney could not have run roughshod over America if they had not had the support of key Democratic leaders. The Liebermans, Nelsons, Reids and Clintons have divided the Party and have diluted its purpose and ideals. A recent poll indicated that 70% of American voters would prefer to vote for a viable third party alternative to the Democrats and Republicans. Of course the powers that be will never allow this to come to fruition. Their power is the status quo. Again the Democrats have been handed the GOP's head on a silver platter and they have refused to do what the majority of citizens have been asking for a long time. Al Gore is probably the only candidate who can save the Democratic Party from its own implosion! Lawton Watson Subject: Hackthevote Why has the issue of rigged elections died? The last two presidential races provide numerous examples of deliberate tampering. Why has the media abandoned or trivialized the issue? Are people afraid of being labeled crackpots? Is America so pathetic now that it would rather suffer rigged elections than endure the kind of fight it will take to clean up the voting process? Are the candidates who were victimized by this fraud so gutless they just let it go? Americans of all parties who want fair elections need to get busy now. Bust the people who rigged these two elections. Any state with a dishonest voting system - Florida and Ohio, for instance - should be exposed and spotlighted until voting is made legitimate again. Without a legitimate voting system, all the debates, polls and issues mean nothing. A BuzzFlash Reader [BuzzFlash Note: The issue isn't dead to us. Here's some news: Electronic Voting Machines Under Scrutiny 12/7; and Ohio Bill Would Restrict Elections Officer; no longer be able to hold two jobs seemingly at odds - counting votes and backing candidates. Every state should have this law. Hopefully, Ohio will, too. 12/7. And we have Mark Crispin Miller's Fooled Again as a BuzzFlash premium.] Subject: Barbara in NYC Barbara in NYC mentioned in the mailbag that Jimmy Carter is a class act. Jimmy Carter is the person I always look to as a model for the type of Christian I want to be. I have read almost all of his books. I received my book from BuzzFlash, the premium, "Our Endangered Values...America's Moral Crisis" by Jimmy Carter. BuzzFlash deserves recognition for giving Carter a place of honor. I campaigned for him for President twice. One day, I hope to get to Plains, Georgia, and visit the Maranatha Baptist Church where he teaches Sunday school. I know I will learn a lot. Martisa Subject: Now we take from old disabled people The United States Supreme Court ruled today the the government can garnish the Social Security checks of old disabled people who haven't paid back their student loans. The decision against a 67 year old Seattle man who lives in public housing who says he needs his $874 a month to pay for food and medicine. It may be legal for America to take money from a poor old disabled man, but that doesn't make it right. It speaks as to who we are as a nation and a people and reflects the (lack of) heart of America's soul. Marc Perkel Subject: Poor Speaker Hastert Hi everyone, Michael R. here AKA Mark Mayberry of the Nation Obsessed with Damnation (DamnationNation.blogspot.com). It's almost the New Year, and in honor of this special time, the House of Representatives has decided to give themselves an extra long vacation:
I personally, could not be happier. I have no interest in them returning to session until 2007 in fact. That goes for the House (of which Speaker Dennis Hastert represents the 13th district of Illinois, my home state) and the Senate. By that time maybe we can fix a few things: 1. The National debt is estimated to be eight trillion, one hundred and twenty-six billion, two hundred and seventy-five million, eight-hundred and sixty-two thousand, etc. And it increases by "$2.83 billion per day since September 30, 2005!" 2. The war in Iraq, which, while controlled by the President has been irresponsibly handled by Congress since day one. The best we have gotten out of them has been the suggestion of quarterly updates (Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist), and the idea of pulling out (Democratic Representative John Murtha). Neither of which do I really believe are proper solutions. Maybe, just maybe it isn't the fact that we have an illegal war going on, maybe it's the leadership involved in carrying it out. Perhaps Congress could fix that? 3. A Medicare plan that favors the pharmaceutical industry and screws those that need it. 4. And some brilliant ideas from Representative Ted Stevens involving bridges: "The bridge achieved notoriety during debate over the federal highway bill, which was laden with "earmarks" - hometown projects won by individual members of Congress. On a long list of near-useless spending, the proposed $223 million span between Ketchikan and a nearly unpopulated island stood out as more useless than most." - USAToday But let's not expect the House or the Senate to fix any of this. Instead, let's go with Rush Limbaugh's idea: Congress should stop meeting. Let's give Speaker Hastert the message that while two extra weeks is a good start, it's not enough. Let's tell them to take all of next year off. After all, what harm can it do that hasn't already been done? Mark Mayberry P.S. Any suggestions that you would like to give to Hastert, please send to: http://www.house.gov/hastert/contact.shtml Subject: Pinter Nobel Speech The speech is blasting American policies. Harold Pinter: Art, Truth & Politics (The Swedish Academy) A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: "There's not enough rope" (Shirley Smith) Thanks girl...for putting it into words. You said everything I would like to say to the freaky Michael Reagan....and he couldn't take it any more than Bush or Cheney or Rumsfeld...they have all fallen back on the tired old line...."They just hate to think that the troops will hear this divisive talk".....Yawn...yawn...I have heard that line so many times, I almost tune it out. I have been told by my relatives.....all just as sick as Bush, Cheney and Rummy! Will they ever grow up and stop following this criminal bunch? Another Michael.....is picking up the slack and running with it. It is no small feat, when you can turn a life-long republican into a democrat...one who is going to organize a PAC...too! Welcome...Michael Schiavo. I remember so well how Frist, DeLay and Bush played politics with his poor wife...and made her last days hell for Michael! Shirley...............St. Louis Subject: Clinton/NAFTA How could anyone say habitual chaser Clinton who put in NAFTA and feasible trade with Communist China was our best president? He took millions of people jobs offshore and hurt their overtime. And not just factory workers' jobs but white collar jobs too. Like the 6 engineers from California who were sent to train in India and said not to lose their jobs. But 6 months after they got back to California all of them were fired. And the engineer from Chicago suburb on C Span with Senator Durbin who lost his job offshore. He said Americans never get SS and taxes from his payroll check again. And he would never get a job that paid as much as one went offshore. Or the computer programmer from Chicago suburb who lost his job offshore and took him a year to find another job and when did half the wages. Say unemployment low with Clinton, well what about all the millions of jobs he outsourced? Any time say to a republican about bush's outsourcing jobs. Say back clinton/gore started it and they did. And US companies taking advantage all the way freezing wages not even cost of living, half the starting wages and no benefits or higher cost of health insurance with limits. And when those people lost their jobs offshore lost their health insurance too and go without healthcare. Right Clinton had low unemployment while he was outsourcing with NAFTA millions of Americans' jobs. While Tipper was feeding the homeless gore in his last term of vp working on NAFTA to make millions more homeless. No president ever took American jobs from Americans before clinton/gore/bush/cheney. Coolidge and Hoover it was the stock market. Instead of being impeached for lying about Monica should have been impeached for NAFTA. All he cared about was Monica and NAFTA not Americans and America. And Hillary with her legal background cannot claim ignorance. Not to mention active, pushy and arrogant first lady. Not a real Democrat like my father's Democratic Party if for clinton/gore/hillary. Clinton even calls himself republican democrat. And clinton/ gore/bush/cheney all melt into one with their NAFTA and outsourcing and having Communist China goods shoved down our throat. It is almost like it was all planned in some back room clinton/gore/bush/cheney. Of course what it all comes down to is labor is the biggest cost and suits with stocks like outsourcing for their pockets. But every job affects the other and SS. Could you be suits with stocks? Double dare you to put on. A BuzzFlash Reader [BuzzFlash Note: Keep in mind that Democrats, progressives, liberals, independents, and third parties don't have to agree on everything or everyone. (Although, most of our readers are probably united in our assessment of the current administration.) Let's not anoint anyone as flawless as we acknowledge good deeds and core values. In the Mailbag, let's stay civil and keep our eyes peeled for good leadership for the future. For the record, BuzzFlash doesn't back individuals, but we are "pro-democracy, anti-hypocrisy." In other words, we want honest government, for the people, by the people.] Subject: As a Christian Dem, I might encourage our GOP Christian brethren to WEAR CLOTHES
You have got to be kidding. Where is Rush Limbaugh and Fox news when this conservative Christian mainly Republican group decides to do this? A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: THE CHRISTMAS SONG (THE VICE-PRESIDENT’S VERSION, 2005, WITH APOLOGIES TO MEL TORME) Chest hairs toasting on an open wire, Everybody knows, ‘Cause he knows that Santa’s in his sleigh, And so he’s offering this simple phrase Daniel Fleisher Subject: Divide and Conquer This is what has happened to the Democratic party. I am a Libertarian that leans a bit more to the left. I see you are divided about the war. WHY? You all were fed the same pack of lies that got us into it. We all know, now, that most of the reasons for war with Iraq are lies, so why the division? The war is wrong, end it, get our people out of there, is the answer. Make a real united stand, do it on FOX news. In the halls of congress, more seats for you there, invite all the press there, on the one stipulation that they only get to put live cameras and microphones in the hall, no editing, no commercials until after it's over, and they must show it all on prime time national news, or break into O'Reilly's time slot, would be best. Show the proof of the lies. All of you at the same time, one voice, one message. I bet a few from the other side will join you, too. Both Senate and House members. Be honest enough to admit you were lied to and want to fix the problem. The best way to start is to end all fighting in Iraq, pull out all of the combat equip such as tanks and choppers and gun ships. Move in construction equipment for the Iraqis to use to rebuild their country. Put all the oil resources of the country back into the hands of all the people of Iraq, aka under the government's ownership. If Halliburton wants to contract out their services to operate the oil fields, they can, but without a private army there. And be removing our troops at the same time. With full press coverage of the troops and equipment leaving and arriving back at their US bases. This is just my thoughts and possible plan of action. Thank you BUZZFLASH, I love your open-minded reporting. Rick Subject: Breaking News on December 7, 2005 Sorry, but, why do I think there's something more to this story? I mean: a man boards a plane, is suspected of carrying a bomb, the man's wife is screaming "My husband! My husband!" and claiming he's "off his meds" (quotes mine). Then, he gets shot and killed by a U.S. Air Marshal, whose job, I know, is to protect us. But, I suppose, like all "breaking news stories," there will be further details. None, of course, will be true, but, sensationalized "infotainment." In fact, I can hear it now: that the man boarding the plane--and, the man is a U.S. citizen, too--is the new John Walker Lindh. Oh, great: more "news" to frighten us. Michael Moore was right when he implied, as well as opined, that all the "news" does is scare the daylights out of us. Thank God for BuzzFlash!! Lisa [BuzzFlash Note: "Before he ran off the plane he 'uttered threatening words that included a sentence to the effect that he had a bomb,' said James E. Bauer, agent in charge of the Federal Air Marshal Service field office in Miami." (Associated Press). What does "to the effect that" mean? Let's see if other passengers are allowed to go public with what they heard and saw. And what will the government say to his widow?] Subject: Historical Process American History has ignored the real historical process of capitalism, which is synthesizing chaos. The players are only the players. Unlike previous revolutions, wherein the discontented masses rose up -- the neo-con revolution began at the top of a prosperous nation and "overthrew" the masses. The 'greater good' has been replaced by 'the chosen few'. While capital seems to motivate everything, the deeper drive comes from Apocalyptic Christo-Zionism. This ain't going away. David Wilson [BuzzFlash Note: "Christo-Zionism"? Is this a reference to end-of-times promoters? (You're being a little too enigmatic.) It's true the middle-class (and lower) masses have been the losers under Bush's corporate elites and neocons.] CLICK HERE FOR PART 2 OF THE DECEMBER 8, 2005 BUZZFLASH MAILBAG
