No, the headline isn’t exactly true, but it could be in the alternative performative universe of Marjorie Taylor Greene freak show woman cosplaying as a Congressional Rep. Why would you want to tell any of her and Trump’s followers that anything isn’t true that reflects the deep and penetrating dementia of the party of mass delusion? Who wants to be told that the Candyland of untethered hate is a fantasy?
It was barely reported the other day that after House Minority Leader finally referred to Greene’s unseemly evocation of the Holocaust in relation to wearing masks as “appalling” that Greene favorably retweeted a comment that McCarthy was a “feckless c*nt.” McCarthy responded to Greene’s apparent accusation that he had no balls by remaining silent, providing state’s evidence that indeed he lacks a pair of cojones.
McCarthy waited five days to call Greene to task even though the calls from big Jewish donors to him and many of his caucus must have been ringing off the hook. But McCarthy doesn’t want to go too far in condemning anti-Semitism, just far enough to satisfy wealthy Jewish donors (remember the late casino-magnate Sheldon Adelson gave $75 million to a Trump superfund in the summer of 2020) whom Trump repaid by moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem in 2018. Trump also gave his Jewish son-in-law, Jared, the authority to essentially put a halt to any notion of a two-state solution.
Anti-Semitism sells big time in the GOP, always has. Trump, however, threaded the needle so that bigotry such as Greene’s was openly welcome in the party. This was continuously evidenced by Trump embracing “The Jews shall not replace us” marchers in Charlottesville, his assertion that Jews who don’t support Netanyahu are disloyal to their “primary” nation (implying US Jews are Israelis before being Americans), and his ongoing refusal to condemn well-known anti-Semites who have supported him.
Anti-Semitism is one of the brutal contagions that keeps Trump’s alternative reality and mass delusion unshakeable for many white grievance followers. So McCarthy can’t completely cut Greene loose because she represents the shock troops of the Republican Party.
Of course, there are plenty of reasons to kick Greene out of Congress, including her primary campaign video where she brandished an AK-47 at a poster of “the Squad,” her support of a Facebook threat to shoot Nancy Pelosi in the head, and her stalking of AOC (for which AOC should request a restraining order). Greene is the new breed of Trump GOP figures who are not really known or responsible for legislation. They are self-promoters of brand celebrity personalities through the shock and awe of ever-escalating assertions of “victimhood” as whites. This, then, is converted into mind-boggling fundraising figures. The greatest flaw one can have, as far as they are concerned, is to tell the truth and not bully winners into conceding. They personify “the big lie.”
As far as anti-Semitism, it is baked into a good portion of the GOP cake. Trump knew how to feed the anti-Semitic masses while delivering an Israel unfettered by international constraints of “occupation law” and humanity to the 25% of Jewish voters who cast Republican presidential ballots in 2020. He’ll continue supporting Greene because she solidifies the anti-Semitic rabble while claiming support for Israel — and he admires her garish, brazen lying and intimidation.
Think of Greene not as a new congressional representative (it’s been less than 5 months), but rather as the host of a reality TV show, “Dancing with the Anti-Semites.” Donald Trump knows the choreography quite well.
