As a nation under the reign of the Grifter-Liar-Racist-in-Chief, it has been a harrowing journey that makes the Mad Hatter look sane. Since so much of Trump’s performance as president is creating chaos in his own reality TV show; everyday is a spectacle.

It is always a challenge to separate what is Trump’s socio-pathological derangement from his cunning and strategic performance art of political diversion.

However, we must accept that we are many a mile into the Twilight Zone with the news that Trump has postponed an official presidential trip, representing the US we should note, to Denmark. Why? And we are not making this up, because Denmark won’t sell the US to Greenland. Yes, one can make an analogy that Trump was thinking of his idea of purchasing Greenland as a real estate deal, and he said so himself. But Greenland is not Trump Tower.

According to an August 20 report on CNN:

Less than two weeks before his scheduled trip to Denmark, President Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he has postponed his visit to Copenhagen after the Danish Prime Minister disputed his interest in buying Greenland as "absurd."

"Denmark is a very special country with incredible people, but based on Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen's comments, that she would have no interest in discussing the purchase of Greenland, I will be postponing our meeting scheduled in two weeks for another time," he wrote Tuesday night.

He continued, "The Prime Minister was able to save a great deal of expense and effort for both the United States and Denmark by being so direct. I thank her for that and look forward to rescheduling sometime in the future!"

A White House official confirmed to CNN that the entire trip to Denmark is being scrapped.

BuzzFlash has already documented Trump’s initial trial balloon offer to buy Greenland and Denmark’s response that its ownership of a nearly independent Greenland is not for sale, with the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs tersely tweeting Trump: “We’re Open for Business, Not for Sale."

After Trump first offered the lunatic idea, BuzzFlash headlined our article:

Trump Wants the US to Buy Greenland, for Real. His Lunacy Has Broken Through all the Guard Rails on Sanity. Let Him Buy It, as Long as He Lives There. His New Residence Can Be Called "The Ice House."

Trump knows how to play the fool to escape accountability for his deplorable actions as president. It’s only two weeks since El Paso, and he’s already off the leash for being the lighter of the gasoline that ignited the massacre of Mexican-Americans and Mexicans by one of his followers. How else do you explain his daffy tweet (oh those tweets never stop, do they?) as reported by the Independent:

Donald Trump has tweeted — and then retweeted, hours later — a doctored image of what appears to be Trump Tower Las Vegas looming over a village in Greenland, promising not to push forward with such a development. And, in response, the internet has mocked the former businessman for his past failed business ventures, including the bankruptcy of his Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City.

Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said what the US mainstream corporate media won’t because it generally treats Trump with a bemused official deference: "I strongly hope that this is not meant seriously," she said, calling the conversations "an absurd discussion."

Oh, if only most of the American press could acknowledge that this emperor wears no clothes. Instead, we ride a careening roller coaster as Trump leads most of the corporate media around like a circus ring master.

Every day is theater with Trump. You don’t know what to expect, but you know it’s going to be an outrage or farce du jour — or many of them.

Meanwhile, as Trump plays the Grand-Guignol, he is inciting murders, priming racism, cratering the economy, committing acts of cruelty on the border, appointing partisan hack reactionaries to the federal bench and allowing a climate catastrophe to fester.

In this case, he may be trying to distract from huge blow back from Trump accusing Jews of being disloyal if they vote for Democrats, which is, when distilled, reinforcing an anti-Semitic stereotype of dual loyalty. And then there’s his predictable backing down from supporting gun buyer background checks. And many more stories he wanted the press to overlook in their clamor to cover the Greenland distraction that Trump has spread over several days.

Trump isn’t miffed about Greenland not being for sale. He’s just clowning around to divert attention from his loathsome, hateful and perilous rule as a demagogue.
