I have to admit, I was one of those nervous Nellies fretting the past two days over the possibility of a Trump win in November. This Kos diary, a strong Biden speech, and some robust, consistently applied cannabis therapy helped me out of my funk, but man. The PTSD (and that’s only a bit of an exaggeration, if at all) from 2016 still has me on a knife’s edge.

Oh, and Trump’s Laura Ingraham interview, in which Trump claimed black-clad men in planes were about to deploy in U.S. cities or something. That helped calm me, too. Because Trump is basically a walking, bellowing DSM-5, and if we elect that again I’ll definitely be rooting for that asteroid to hit us. (In further proof that the stars have been aligned against me since my conception — which came about via what I can only assume was a raucous bit of boozy congress in the back of an El Camino somewhere in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, in the mid ’60s — the asteroid that’s scootching past us in November is due to arrive the day before the election. How the fuck am I supposed to know if I want it to hit us?)

Anyway, I feel better today, for various and sundry reasons.

Here’s just one of them.

The New York Times:

Joseph R. Biden Jr. is expected to report a record-breaking haul of donations for August, raising more than $300 million between his campaign and his shared committees with the Democratic Party, according to two people familiar with the matter.

The sum would shatter past monthly records as small donors have poured money into Mr. Biden’s coffers, especially since the selection of Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate, and big contributors, from Silicon Valley to Wall Street, have given checks that can be as large as $721,300.

In a sign of the financial momentum behind Democrats, ActBlue, the main site that processes donations to the party, reported the second-biggest fund-raising day in its history on Monday, with more than $35 million donated. A majority of Mr. Biden’s August total came from online grass-roots donors, according to another person familiar with the figures.

Momentum! That’s what I like to hear.

And, by the way, the apparent record doesn’t just edge out the previous mark. It blows it out of the water.

Mr. Biden’s sum laps what is believed to be the previous monthly record of $193 million, set by Barack Obama in September 2008, though there is no formal record-keeping.

Ah, Barack Obama. The very sound of his name is soothing. I may make it my new mantra and repeat it all day, every day until November 3.

Or I’ll add more to Joe’s burgeoning coffers.

Let’s all relax — but not so much that we forget to work.
