I have no doubts that nuns who were active in the anti-war movement during the Vietnam War wanted the publicity that getting arrested gave them.
Similarly, I am pretty sure that the nuns sitting behind Trump were happy to have been asked to sit behind him.
The nun-stunt got him attention at Fox News (Nuns wearing MAGA masks spotted behind Trump at rally) and Brietbart, and on Twitter. [The nuns appear to be from The Sister of Mary Convent in Newark, Ohio. They state on their website:

Again, none of this earns more than a hoo-hum, just another new outrage, from me.
Whoever has the job of finding people to sit behind Trump at rallies probably could have found a few Black people but I didn’t see any in the background photos which would end up in the news
