For Sexual Predator and Second Amendment “Remedy” Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC), Freedom Is Just Another Word for Being Selfish, a Liar, Opportunistic and Proud of It

SPECIAL TO BUZZFLASH BY MARK KARLIN
Congressman Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) most recently garnered attention as a member of the “sedition caucus” by holding a “shadow cabinet” meeting at Donald Trump’s Bedminster, New Jersey golf club last weekend. Cawthorn tweeted:
Cawthorn has made himself a regular member of House conspiracists who might be called “The Slave Patrol” — including the likes of Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, Mo Brooks and Paul Gosar. He regularly rants against wearing masks to help rein in COVID, supports a Second Amendment “remedy” to an alleged onerous federal government, and is an avid supporter of “the Big Lie,” voter suppression and election subversion.
In regards to mask wearing, in remarks in the House, he issued a veiled warning against the mask rule and masks in general:
"How dare anyone in this institution attempt to dictate to the patriots on my staff how they may live their lives. … What makes this nation special is that here in this free land, the people are the royalty. So arrest us if you will, but I will not cower and I will not bend. You have come to take away our liberties, but Madam Speaker, in this country you are outnumbered."
He has also tried to violate the House prohibition of carrying guns onto the House floor. Indeed, he’s such a gun nut, he tried to board an airplane in Asheville, North Carolina, this spring with a loaded gun. He was stopped, and the TSA obliged him by unchambering the gun and holding it for him until his return in a flagrant act of special privilege. He should be subject to federal and local charges.
Cawthorn’s lying and performative trumpery started early, when he was on a spring-break run to Daytona Beach and he was crippled when a friend driving the car he was in smashed into a bridge support. Cawthorn claimed his friend abandoned him, but his version is contradicted by many accounts, including his friend’s father. That his friend pulled him from the burning car and Cawthorn lies are revealed in a February Washington Post article, “The making of Madison Cawthorn: How falsehoods helped propel the career of a new pro-Trump star of the far right.” Indeed, he even lied about being accepted into the United States Naval Academy.
After his accident, Cawthorn attended Patrick Henry College, known as a school to groom Christian political leaders. His only known accomplishments of his one semester at the college was his “D” average and becoming widely known as a sexual predator at the school. According to a Blue Ridge Public Radio report before the November 2021 election:
A scathing public letter signed by more than 150 of Madison Cawthorn’s former schoolmates at Patrick Henry College alleges that the Republican candidate engaged in “sexually predatory behavior,” vandalism and lying as a student and is unfit for congress or as a representative of the conservative Christian school.
The letter, in the form of an online petition, was posted over the weekend by alumni who said they knew Cawthorn during the 2016-2017 academic year. He dropped out before the end of his second semester and didn’t return.
Then there are the allegations of his racism from his campaign:
Madison Cawthorn, a Republican candidate for the U.S. House from western North Carolina, created an attack website accusing a journalist of leaving a job in academia “to work for non-white males, like Cory Booker, who aims to ruin white males running for office.”
The journalist, Tom Fiedler, who had written favorably about Cawthorn’s opponent, is a retired dean of the Boston University College of Communications. He volunteered for the 2020 presidential campaign of Booker, a Democratic U.S. senator from New Jersey….
The attack on Fiedler was reported by The Bulwark, which called it “a despicable smear” echoing racist remarks by President Donald Trump.
It certainly boosts his bonafides with his fellow House “Slave Patrol” members. Racism and threatened violence are sacred to their brand, which has little to do with lawmaking.
And those are just some of the reasons Madison Cawthorn is the BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the Week.
So many Republican Hypocrites, so little time.
