Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), a member of House Republican Leadership, called for military strikes against Iran on Wednesday, following allegations Iran recently attacked oil fields in Saudi Arabia.

After calling for “proportional military” strikes, Cheney added, “it’s got to be a response that’s significant enough that it lets the Iranians know that this sort of attack on the global oil supply won’t be accepted,” according to journalist Matt Laslo.

Over the weekend, Saudi Arabia’s oil fields were attacked, and U.S. officials said they suspect Iran or its allies are responsible.

Cheney is now demanding that the United States launch a military attack not to protect American citizens or defend the United States, but to defend the global oil supply.

Before Cheney made her announcement, Trump already announced his intention to increase economic sanctions on Iran.

Cheney has long been a supporter of action in the Middle East. She worked at the State Department during George W. Bush’s administration, while her father, Dick Cheney, was vice president. One of the many roles she held was as head of the short-lived Iran Syria Policy and Operations Group at the State Department, created in 2006, which pushed for military escalation in Iran and Syria.

Now, Liz Cheney is once again calling for U.S. military involvement, not because America or Americans were attacked, but to send Iran a message about oil.
