New White House Press Secretary Shows How Well She Lies By Insisting Trump Doesn't Lie

New White House communications director and press secretary Stephanie Grisham has yet to hold a single press briefing, but she is definitely ready for the level of lying that would be required if she ever does. Exhibit A: More than 12,000 lies into his time in the White House, does Grisham think Donald Trump lies? “No.”
“I don’t think they’re lies. . . . I think the president communicates in a way that some people, especially the media, aren’t necessarily comfortable with. A lot of times they take him so literally. I know people will roll their eyes if I say he was just kidding or was speaking in hypotheticals, but sometimes he is. What I’ve learned about him is that he loves this country and he’s not going to lie to this country.”

Ah, yes, Trump communicates in a way that some people, especially the media, aren’t necessarily comfortable with. Like LIES. Also: insults and bullying and racism. Why would anyone take him literally? After all, he only repeats the same lies dozens and dozens of times apiece, which as we all know is the hallmark of just kidding and/or speaking in hypotheticals—shoot, don’t think of it as a presidency, think of it as a stand-up comedy routine in which everything is kind of a joke right up until it’s an order to senior officials to set a new policy. And maybe “he loves this country and he’s not going to lie to this country” is Grisham’s application to join the stand-up act, because wow, that’s quite a line to be able to deliver with a straight face.
Then again, Grisham has had the chance to hone her skills while losing jobs for things like cheating on expense reports and plagiarism. For that matter, it’s not hard to imagine she lied about how much she’d had to drink right before each of the two times she was arrested for driving under the influence. She’s a good fit for this White House.
