Town Hall Crowd Bursts Into Applause as Democratic Rep. From a Trump District in New Jersey Announces Support for Impeachment

Democratic Rep. Tom Malinowski of New Jersey is one of the Democratic House members who is sticking to his principles even though he is in an electorally challenging district. As obvious as it is for many of us to see the impeachable offenses of Donald J. Trump, with elections around the corner for many officials, polling numbers seem to have more sway than ethics these days. But for every time we can be disappointed in our electorate—the president is Donald Trump for example—there are myriad times when they do the right thing.
A town hall event in Branchburg, New Jersey, on Saturday saw Rep. Malinowski speaking to constituents on a wide range of topics. One of the big questions was what his stance was on the current articles of impeachment.
REP. TOM MALINOWSKI: Based on the evidence that I have seen, in the depositions, in the hearings, and the documents I have seen. I believe that on the two counts of impeachment that have been put before us that the vote should be yes. And I will be voting yes.
The majority of the crowd erupted in applause with some people jumping out of their seats in support. There are some boos that can be heard from people who probably still believe Chris Christie isn’t a complete sham of a human being. But the point is clear. You might not gain Republican voters by voting for impeachment, but you probably aren’t getting those votes anyway, unless you are willing to tow the fascism that passes for the GOP’s party line these days.
Malinowski has been pretty resolute throughout this entire process. He’s been razor sharp in his criticism of the theatrical productions put on by GOP leadership during the hearings and investigations of the Donald Trump Ukraine debacle.
